Navy Rolls Over Temple 38-14

PHILADELPHIA (AP)--Navy (3-8, 3-5 in the AAC) ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more as the Mids rolled over Temple (3-9, 1-7) 38-14 in front of 16,708 fans at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.  The game was the season finale for the Owls, while Navy will play Army at MetLife Stadium on Dec. 11.

"We are grateful for the win, any win is a great win," said Navy head football coach Ken Niumatalolo.  "We started slow offensively, but our guys fought and I thought our defense did some good things defensively."

Senior slot back Carlinos Acie ran for 86 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, senior fullback Isaac Ruoss had 66 yards yards rushing and two touchdowns on 18 carries, while senior slot back Chance Warren got touchdown passes from both starter Tai Lavatai and backup Xavier Arline to lead the Navy offense that had 291 yards of total offense on the day.

"I thought we executed better in the second half on offfense," said Niumatalolo.  "It's hard to win, we will take every win we can get. We have to continue to get better."

The Navy defense was led by freshmen linebackers Tyler Fletcher (7 tackles and his first-career sack) and Colin Ramos (5 tackles and  forced fumble) as the Mids held Temple to 182 yards of total offense.

"We played with great effort on defense," said Fletcher. "We played with elite EAT-effort, attitude and toughness."

Navy jumped out to a 14-0 lead on an 11-yard touchdown run by Acie and a 15-yard touchdown pass from Arline to Warren before Temple scored on a one-yard touchdown run by Re'Von Bonner, which was set up by a batted pitch that the Owls recovered at the Navy one.

Temple gifted Navy three points at the end of the half when they fumbled a punt and Navy's Bijan Nichols booted a 32-yard field goal to make the score 17-7 at the intermission.

Navy took a 24-7 lead with 6:43 left in the third quarter on a three-yard run by Ruoss and then put the game away on fourth quarter touchdonws by Ruoss (six-yard run) and Warren (four-yard pass from Lavatai).
