Water Polo Set for Four Games to End Week

Navy plays George Washington (Thursday), Wagner (Saturday), Fordham (Saturday), and Bucknell (Sunday).

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy water polo team (9-10, 4-1 MAWPC) will play four games between Thursday and Sunday, including three games in Annapolis. The Midshipmen host George Washington (8-10, 5-2) on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. The Mids continue the weekend on Saturday, Nov. 6 as they welcome Wagner (13-14, 3-5) at 9:00 a.m. and No. 15 Fordham (20-4, 8-0) at 5:00 p.m. Navy travels to Bucknell (9-10, 4-5) to close out the weekend with a 10:00 a.m. game.
 
All home games during the week will be played in Lejeune Hall and will be live streamed through CWPATV on Stretch.

Accessing the USNA
The USNA is closed to all vehicles without a Department of Defense-approved identification card. All other visitors are encouraged to park downtown and walk through the security gates at Gate 1. When walking on, those ages 18 and over must present a photo identification card (driver's license) to gain access and those ages 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
 
COVID-19 Policy
Masks must be worn by everyone indoors regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status. Once on the USNA grounds, those who have not been vaccinated must wear a mask at all times and those who have been vaccinated have the option to wear a mask while outdoors but must wear a mask while indoors.

Scouting the Midshipmen
The Midshipmen enter the weekend with a 9-10 overall record, and a 4-1 record in MAWPC play.
 
Offensively, the Mids are led by Isaac Salinas (Spring City, Pa.), Jake Altmayer (Pasadena, Calif.), Will Clark (Laguna Beach, Calif.), Jack Weggeland (Riverside, Calif.), and Ivan Pang (El Monte, Calif.). Salinas leads all Midshipmen with 50 total points, including a team-best 40 goals. Altmayer leads the team with 19 assists and has chipped in 14 goals for 33 total points. Clark is third on the team in points (25) with a balanced 11 goals and 14 assists. Weggeland (14g 10a) and Pang (8g 14a) round out Navy's top-five scorers with 24 and 22 points, respectively.
 
Defensively, Caden Capobianco (Laguna Beach, Calif.) and Max Sandberg (Newport Beach, Calif.) have seen a majority of the action. Capobianco leads the team with 153 saves in 16 games played, while registering a team-high 39 steals. Sandberg has played in 10 games with 62 stops and eight steals.
 
Scouting the Opposition
George Washington (8-10, 5-2 in the MAWPC-East)

The Colonials enter the week with a 8-10 overall record, including a 5-2 mark against league competition. George Washington is led by Andras Levai who boasts a team-best 63 points on a team-high 38 goals with a team-best 25 assists. Nick Schroeder is second on the team with 40 points on 27 goals and 13 helpers. Defensively, Luca Castorina is the Colonials' primary goalie, registering 222 saves compared to 217 goals allowed with a team-leading 35 steals.
 
Wagner (13-14, 3-5 in the MAWPC-East)
The Seahawks are 13-14 overall with a 3-5 conference mark. Navy and Wagner met earlier in the year with the Midshipmen claiming a 7-6 victory over the Seahawks in Princeton, N.J. Oliver Fodor leads Wanger with 107 points on 107 goals scored. Zsombor Gryemant is second on the team with 82 points, including a team-high 29 assists. Ethan Zirth handles the goalie duties for Wagner, registering 255 saves with 303 goals allowed with 33 steals to his credit.
 
#15 Fordham (20-4, 8-0 in the MAWPC-East)
Fordham sits atop the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo East Division heading into the weekend. The Rams are 20-4 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the conference. Fordham claimed a 17-10 win against Navy earlier this season in the Bronx. Prior to playing the Midshipmen, the Rams will take on Mount St. Mary's (Friday) and Johns Hopkins (Saturday). Lucas Nieto Jasny leads the team with 89 points on 55 goals and 34 assists. George Papanikolaou leads the team with 57 goals (79 pts), while Jacopo Parrella paces the Rams with 43 assists (83 pts). At goal, Bailey O'Mara leads the team with 177 saves with 152 goals allowed for a 53.8 save percentage.
 
Bucknell (9-10, 4-5 in the MAWPC-East)
The Bison enter the week with a 9-10 overall record, including a 4-5 mark against league competition. Bucknell plays Navy before hosting Johns Hopkins later in the day. Earlier this season, the Midshipmen earned an 11-10 victory at home against the Bison.
 
Last Time Out: vs. Mount St. Mary's (W, 18-6, Oct. 22, 2021)
The No. 20 Navy water polo team posted an 18-6 victory over league newcomer Mount St. Mary's at Scott Natatorium.
 
Offensively, Navy saw 12 players combine for 18 goals on the night. Five student-athletes netted multiple goals. Isaac Salinas (Spring City, Pa.) led the charge with three goals for his sixth hat trick of the season. Jake Altmayer (Pasadena, Calif.), Graham Lindner (Bel Air, Md.), Cole McKechnie (Laguna Beach, Calif.), and Ivan Pang (El Monte, Calif.) contributed a pair of goals piece. For McKechnie, it was the freshman's first multi-goal game of his young career.
 
Defensively, the Midshipmen used a trio of goalies. The keepers combined to hold the Mountaineer offense to six goals on the night, half of their season average of 11.7 goals per game. Caden Capobianco (Laguna Beach, Calif.) opened the game for the Mids, working the first half. The sophomore registered five stops with a pair of steals, surrendering four goals. Max Sandberg (Newport Beach, Calif.) worked a majority of the second half. The senior finished with five stops with just two goals allowed. Owen Gurich (Long Beach, Calif.) closed out the game, posting a clean scorecard.
 
Up Next
Following the four-game weekend, Navy will play three games next weekend to close out the regular season. The Midshipmen host two conference foes – Johns Hopkins (3:00 p.m.) and George Washington (8:00 p.m.) – on Saturday, Nov. 13 before traveling to Emmitsburg, Md. for a Sunday tilt with Mount St. Mary's (12:00 p.m.) on Nov. 14. Each home game will be live streamed through CWPATV.
