• Inside the Match: Bragging rights will be on the line Friday evening when the 20th-ranked Navy wrestling team (4-1, 1-0 EIWA) travels to West Point to battle Army (2-2, 2-2 EIWA) in the annual Star Match. Action is slated for 6:00 pm.

• Format: Army and Navy are scheduled to wrestle a traditional 10-bout, team-scored dual while the two programs are also expected to wrestle extra matches that will count towards an individual's season record.
• The Series: Friday's dual marks the 65th meeting between Army and Navy in a rivalry that dates back to a 17-8 win by the Mids on March 2, 1957 in Annapolis. Navy has been the dominant team in the series, boasting a 49-10-5 advantage, including a 20-6-3 record in matches staged at West Point. The Midshipmen have suffered just six setbacks (1997, 19-12 / 2015, 21-10 / 2017, 19-14 / 2018, 18-15 / 2019, 22-10 / 2020, 16-15 tie-breaker) to Army in the last 58 matches, as Navy owns a spectacular 47-6-5 record during that span. Navy's last win in the series was a 19-17 victory in Annapolis on Feb. 20, 2016. The last time Navy won in Army territory was Feb. 24, 2013, when the Mids captured a 22-10 decision.
• The Army-Navy Series: Navy holds a 1100-840-44 (56.6) all-time record against Army. Over the last 25 years, Navy leads the overall series against the Cadets 454-301-11 (60.0), as well as in Star Games 337-189-11 (63.8). Heading into the weekend, the Black Knights lead the annual Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA 4-2 (33.3) There are 18 remaining Star events, including three this weekend - wrestling on Friday, men's and women's outdoor track & field on Saturday - and all three will be contested at West Point. This year's Star winners for Navy include men's cross country and men's basketball, while Army won the Star in women's cross country, sprint football, football and rifle.
• More on the Black Knights: Led by seventh-year head coach Kevin Ward, Army enters Friday night's match having produced a .500 record. The Black Knights own wins over Hofstra (30-18) and Bucknell (26-8), while dropping decisions to Binghamton (23-10) and #25 Lehigh (18-16). With both teams winning five matches, Army gave Lehigh a solid match last Saturday and held a 16-12 advantage going into the final two bouts. The Mountain Hawks scored back-to-back decisions by nationally-ranked wrestlers Jake Jakobsen (197) and Jordan Wood (285) to secure the two-point victory. Additionally, Jaret Lane's pin over Army's Ryan Chauvin at 125 pounds proved to be important as it was one of only two bonus-point matches of the evening. Army has two wrestlers who are currently ranked among the InterMat top 20 (#20 P.J. Ogunsanya at 149 pounds and #18 Markus Hartman at 157 pounds). Meanwhile, there are six wrestlers representing five weight classes who are ranked by other publications - Corey Shie and Lane Peters at 141, Ogunsanya at 149, Hartman at 157JT Brown at 197 and Ben Sullivan at 285.
