ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The #21 Navy women's lacrosse team (1-0) continues the nonconference portion of the season with a home game against Mount St. Mary's (0-1) on Saturday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The game, which is part of a doubleheader with the Navy men's lacrosse team, is slated for 1:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+. Live stats will be available.
Fan Attendance Policy
Following the guidelines set by state and local government officials, Navy will allow fans at its home men's and women's lacrosse games this spring. The current protocol allows for 25 percent capacity at outdoor venues. Fans will be required to wear a mask throughout the contest and asked to maintain social distancing.
All-Time Series
Saturday's game marks the second time the two programs will have met in women's lacrosse. Navy claimed the first meeting 14-4 in 2011. Led by Aimee Gennaro (4g 1a) and Jasmine DePompeo (3g 2a), the Midshipmen used a balanced attack with seven Mids recording goals against the Mount. Defensively, Elaina Ponchione registered nine of Navy's 10 saves to earn the victory.
The Midshipmen are 6-0 (1.000) all-time against current members of the Northeast Conference (NEC).
Scouting the Midshipmen
Navy is looking to start the season off 2-0 for the first time since 2018 when the Mids opened the year 3-0 with wins over Ohio State (W, 9-7), Columbia (W, 21-10), and Michigan (W, 11-10).
The 10-4 victory over George Mason in the season opener snapped a three-game skid dating back to the 2020 season. The last time Navy experienced a three-game losing streak came in 2016 and the Mids rebounded with wins in eight of the next nine contests.
Offensively against Mason, Navy tallied 10 goals on the day, led by
Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.). Victory finished the game with a team-high four goals. She was joined by
Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) and
Ellie Lecker (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) who chipped in two goals apiece, while
Athena Corroon (Greenwich, Conn.) and
Karoline Nease (Richmond, Va.) each found the back of the net. Corroon, Nease, Roelofs, and
Grace Zagaja (Centerport, N.Y.) accounted for Navy's assists.
The Midshipmen earned extra offensive opportunities by controlling the draw controls. Navy won 13 of 15 draws with Roelofs coming away with a team-high 10 draws. Lecker added a pair and
Erin Carson (New Albany, Ohio) contributed one.
Defensively, Navy was able to hold George Mason to just four goals on the day. The Mids caused 10 of the Patriots' 24 total turnovers. Senior captain
Caroline Kwon (Cooksville, Md.) led the team with three caused turnovers, while Roelofs and Lecker added two CTs apiece.
Scouting the Opponent
Mount St. Mary's fell to Towson 10-7 in the season opener at Waldron Family Stadium. Jordan Groover and Sara Moeller both scored two goals apiece, while Jordan Butler, Alayna Pagnotta, and Erin Anderson each found the back of the net as well for the Mountaineers. Against Towson, Jenna Oler posted a 13-save performance for the Mount.
The Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team was selected to finish second in Northeast Conference annual preseason poll. The Wagner Seahawks (five first-place votes) were the only team picked to finish ahead of the Mountaineers, who took down the Mount in the NEC Championship, 7-6, two seasons ago.

Navy swept the first week of Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Weekly honors when they were announced by the League office.
Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.) collected Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Attacker of the Week,
Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) was Midfielder of the Week,
Caroline Kwon (Cooksville, Md.) received Defensive Player of the Week,
Abbi Young (Alamo, Calif.) collected Goalkeeper of the Week and
Isabelle Thornburg (Alexandria, Va.) claimed Rookie of the Week honors for their part in the team's 10-4 season-opening win over George Mason.

National Rankings
The Navy women's lacrosse team is nationally ranked according to a pair of polls. The Midshipmen are tied for #21 per the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and #18 according to Inside Lacrosse. In addition, the Mids are receiving votes according to US Lacrosse Magazine. The Navy women's lacrosse team has been ranked nationally for 40 consecutive weeks according to the IWLCA, dating back to the final poll of the 2017 season.
