ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The #9 Navy water polo team (4-1) continues the winter 2021 season with three games this weekend at Scott Natatorium in Annapolis. The Mids will take on George Washington on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., La Salle on Saturday at 6:00 p.m., and George Washington on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. No fans are permitted at the water polo games.
In addition to George Washington and La Salle, Bucknell will also be in Annapolis for a pair of games.

George Washington
George Washington enters the weekend 0-1 on the season, following five cancellations. The Midshipmen and Colonials opened the season against each other on Friday, Feb. 12 with the Mids claiming an 8-2 victory. With the win, Navy improved to 54-11 in the all-time series.
La Salle
The Explorers enter the weekend 2-1 overall. Navy posted a 14-5 victory over La Salle last Sunday, but the Explorers rebounded with a pair of victories over Iona on Sunday (W, 19-15) and Monday (W, 15-11). Navy holds an 8-1 edge in the all-time series with La Salle.
Bucknell
Bucknell is 1-1 on the season and slated to play La Salle and George Washington. The Bison and Midshipmen split a doubleheader last Saturday. Bucknell claimed a 12-11 win in overtime, while Navy responded with a 15-5 victory in the nightcap.
Navy Water Polo Ranked in CWPA Top 10
The Navy water polo team remained ranked for the sixth consecutive week, entering week five at #9 in the top 10 of the national rankings on Wednesday, Feb. 24. The Navy water polo team was selected 14th in the initial National Top 20 by the Collegiate Water Polo Association. With multiple teams withdrawing from competition, the CWPA elected to do a Top 10 throughout the season. In the first Top 10 poll, Navy rose to #9 before entering the first week of competition ranked #10.
Water Polo Sweeps MAWPC Weekly Awards
Following a 3-1 weekend, Navy water polo swept the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) athlete of the week honors as announced by the League office.
Isaac Salinas (Spring City, Pa.) was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while
Max Sandberg (Newport Beach, Calif.) repeated as Defensive Player of the Week. Freshman
Caden Capobianco (Laguna Beach, Calif.) was tabbed the Rookie of the Week.
Last Time Out
The #9 Navy water polo team posted a pair of victories on Sunday at Kirk Pool in Philadelphia. The Mids opened the day with a 14-5 win over host La Salle before ending the day with a 19-6 victory over Iona. The Midshipmen finished the weekend 3-1 after splitting a doubleheader with #10 Bucknell on Saturday.
Max Sandberg (Newport Beach, Calif.) and
Caden Capobianco (Laguna Beach, Calif.) split the goalkeeping duties on the day. Sandberg earned the start against the Explorers, finishing with 15 saves and a steal with only five goals allowed. Against the Gaels, Capobianco lined up between the pipes. The freshman registered eight saves to go along with three assists.
Offensively,
Isaac Salinas (Spring City, Pa.) tallied seven goals on the day, collecting a pair of hat tricks. The junior finished the weekend with a team-high 15 goals in three games. Senior captain
Bobby Lee (Santa Ana, Calif.) added five goals on the day, including a hat trick against La Salle.
Jordan Corpuz (Glendale, Calif.) netted a hat trick against La Salle, while
Will Clark (Laguna Beach, Calif.) chipped in a hat trick versus Iona.
Capobianco and
Nathan Duchez (San Jose, Calif.) paced the team with three assists apiece, while
Jake Altmayer (Pasadena, Calif.),
Graham Lindner (Bel Air, Md.),
John Nelligan (Wayne, Pa.),
Andrew Shashin (Buffalo Grove, Ill.),
Jack Weggeland (Riverside, Calif.), and
Kyle Yelensky (Stamford, Conn.) added a pair of helpers each.
