Track and Field Opens Indoor Season with Solid Outing

The men tallied 17 IC4A qualifying standards, while the women registered 13 ECAC marks.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men's and women's track and field team combined for 31 IC4A / ECAC qualifying marks in the season opening dual meet against William & Mary on Friday evening at Wesley A. Brown Field House. The men tallied 17 qualifying standards, while the women registered 13 marks.

"It was great to go against another competitor for the first time since last March," Director of Navy Track and Field Jamie Cook said. "I think the team was excited. We wanted to see where we were because we got a late start. We are trying to play catch up, but I thought we did some good things today and I am ready to see what we can do next week against Army."

In addition to the qualifying standards, the Midshipmen notched three marks that ranked in the program's top 10. Senior captain Sam Orie (Greensburg, Pa.) tied for the second-best performance in school history with a 19.02m (62-05.00) in the weight throw, while Darryl Langford (Fayetteville, Ga.) and Molly Chapman (Leesburg, Va.) tied for the fourth best performance in the high jump with a height of 1.70m (5-07.00).

Navy returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 13 as the Midshipmen travel to West Point, N.Y. to take on Army in America's Meet.
