BETHLEHEM, Pa. –– Navy's John Carter Jr. (Jr., Spring Hill, Tenn.) has been named this week's Patriot League Player of the Week for men's basketball, the league office announced Tuesday.

Carter averaged 21.0 points per game in two contests against Loyola this weekend.  He first tied a career high with 26 points in Navy's 73-67 victory in Baltimore on Saturday.  He scored 23 of those 26 points in the second half when he was 7-10 from the field, including 3-4 from three-point range, and 6-7 from the foul line.  Carter then paced Navy with 16 points during the team's 66-58 victory the next day in Annapolis.  He scored 11 of those points in the second half, which included a key three-point field goal that gave the Mids a 56-50 lead with two minutes left on the clock.

The two victories gave the Mids the No. 1 seed in the Patriot League Tournament.  Navy will play host to ninth-seeded Loyola Saturday at noon in a quarterfinal round game.  The Greyhounds were slated to play a first-round game at No. 8 Holy Cross Wednesday, but earlier today it was announced that the Crusaders will not be able to play due to a positive COVID-19 test within the program.

Carter previously was selected as the league's rookie of the week four times during the 2018-19 season.   

This is Navy's first player-of-the-week award since Feb. 19, 2018, when Shawn Anderson earned the accolade.
