BERLIN, Md. —
Chad Deegan (Jr / Newport Beach, Calif.) shot par (72) to pace the Navy men's golf team in the opening round of the Battle at Rum Pointe played at Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links in Berlin, Md. on Saturday. While Deegan is tied for seventh and sits just three strokes behind the leader, the Mids closed out Saturday's action in fourth place with a 9-over par 297.
Bucknell was the lone school among the 11-team field to finish under par, pacing the pack with a 1-under par 287. Patriot League rival Lafayette is five strokes back in second with a 292, followed by Youngstown State (296, +8) in third, Navy in fourth and rounding out the field in fifth are Mount St. Mary's and Iona locked up at 10-over (298). The Navy "B" or commonly known as Navy Gold is tied with Saint Peter's for 11th with a 40-over par 328.
Bucknell's Jason Lohwater, playing as an individual, is atop the leader board with his 3-under par 69, while teammate Jack Gardner and Lafayette's Kazuki Osawa are just a stroke behind in second.
In addition to Deegan, the Mids have two other players who are currently among the top 13 with both
Charlie Musto (Sr / Sterling, Va.) and
Ward Wilkinson (Sr / Ashland, Va.) finishing the day 2-over.
David Miccoli (Jr / Ludlow, Mass.) stands 32nd for Navy with a 5-over par 77, while
Keegan Shreves (So / Potomac, Md.) is tied for 52nd at 10-over.
Will Meshad (So / Atlanta, Ga.) led the way for the Navy Gold squad with his 6-over par 78 (37th).
Ben Burton (Jr / Charleston, S.C.) is 49th at 9-over (81), followed by
Jake Miles (Sr / Fredericksburg, Va.) in 54th at 11-over (83),
Braxton Tracy (So / Huntersville, N.C.) in 60th at 14-over (86) and
Reece Massei (Fr / Warrenton, Va.) in 64th at 28-over (100).
Weather permitting, the teams will be back out on the course Sunday for the final 18 holes beginning at 9:00 am.
