Tyler Collins Named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week

Ian Bramblett and David Jackson were also named honorable mention players of the week

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Junior Tyler Collins (Crofton, Md.) was named the Patriot League Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in his career, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.

This is Collins' first weekly honor of the season and second of his career after earning his first recognition on September 23, 2019.

Collins helped Navy post its first shutout of the season as the Midshipmen earned a 1-0 home win over Bucknell this past weekend. The junior spearheaded Navy's defensive efforts in the clean sheet as he anchored the backline as a center back. The Midshipmen only allowed the Bison to record eight shots for the entire match with only three shots on goal.

In the match this past weekend, Bucknell also had eight corner kicks where Collins and the Navy defense limited the Bison to just two shots directly off their corner kicks. Collins – who played all 90 minutes – also chipped in on the offensive end with a shot that was just off the mark.

Collins has played in 34 games in his career making 33 starts for the Midshipmen on the backline. He has also logged 2,798 minutes on the field in his career including 180 minutes this season after playing the full 90 minutes in both of his appearances.

Along with Collins being named the defensive player of the week, Ian Bramblett (Sr., Easley, S.C.) and David Jackson (Fr., Cypress, Texas) were named as honorable mention players of the week. Bramblett finished with three saves to record the shutout for Navy last weekend and his shutout is the 12th in his career, which is tied for fifth in program history. Jackson scored Navy's game-winning goal on Saturday with a successful penalty kick in the 33rd minute to put the Midshipmen ahead by a goal. Jackson now has two game-winning goals for Navy and he leads the team with two goals and five points.

The Midshipmen are back in action on Wednesday night as they continue their Patriot League South Division schedule against Loyola at 7 p.m. from the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
