ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Following a win on Wednesday afternoon, Navy women's tennis (4-2, 2-1 Patriot League) takes its two-match winning streak into a Sunday dual at Bucknell (3-2, 2-2 Patriot League) starting at 2 p.m. from Lewisburg, Pa. No visiting fans are permitted to attend the match on Sunday.
The Midshipmen are coming off their first 7-0 win of the season as they did not drop a set in the victory over Loyola on Wednesday. Navy has two matches left in the regular season before it hosts the Patriot League Tournament in Annapolis from April 29-May 2.
With the six singles victories on Wednesday, Navy now holds a record of 25-11 this season where nine individuals have at least one win. The trio of
Katreina Corpuz,
Miranda Deng and
Meghana Komarraju are all tied for the team lead in wins with four each, while Corpuz has a team-best three wins in the Patriot League. Freshmen
Samantha Johns and
Stella Ribaudo have each posted 3-0 records in singles play to start their collegiate careers and
Kacey Moore joins the three-win club in singles competition with a 3-2 record while playing over the top-two singles positions.
Navy's doubles teams have compiled an overall record of 13-5 this spring where seven doubles teams have a win. The doubles team of Corpuz and Komarraju have a team-best 4-1 record and is the only team with multiple wins in Patriot League matches with a 2-0 league mark. Deng also has four doubles victories this year as she has gone 3-2 with
Jillian Taggart – all coming at No. 1 doubles – and she also won a match at No. 2 doubles with fellow senior
Tina Li.
Bucknell snapped a two-match skid last time out after upending Loyola in a 6-1 match at home. The win pushed the Bison to 3-2 on the year and 2-2 in the Patriot League. Before taking on Navy on Sunday, Bucknell travels to Temple on Saturday afternoon. Sunday's match is scheduled to be the Bison's final league match of the season.
Cayla Koch has paced Bucknell to a 17-11 singles record of the year as she has notched a 5-0 record at No. 2 singles. Joining Koch with multiple wins the season is Daniela Bellini (3-1), Tyne Miller (3-2) and Laurel Utterback (3-1). In doubles, Koch and Bellini have a team-best three wins and when partnered together the pair has gone 2-2 with each match being the top-seeded doubles match.
Navy has won the last 13 matches against Bucknell and after the Bison picked up two wins over the Midshipmen during Navy's inaugural season, the Midshipmen hold a 13-2 record of Bucknell. In the last meeting during the 2019 season, the Midshipmen captured a 6-1 road win over the Bison. Navy swept the doubles points, then went on to win four of its five singles matches in straight sets.
After Sunday's dual, Navy closes out its regular-season schedule on Saturday, April 24 against Boston University in a neutral-site match in West Point, N.Y., starting at 2 p.m.
