ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field team tallied three school records at the Navy Invitational III at Ingram Field on Saturday afternoon in Annapolis.
Alexa Arthun (Manhattan, Mont.) and Clayton Thompson (Corpus Christi, Texas) each had school records on the day in the 100m and 110m hurdles, respectively, while
Sam Orie (Greensburg, Pa.) set a new school mark in the hammer throw.
Thompson clocked a school and facility record of 13.77 in the 110m hurdles to break his own school record, while Arthun notched a time of 13.83 in the 100m hurdles to post her own school and facility record. Orie, who set the school record in the shot put at the last meet, set the Navy record in the hammer throw with a distance of 59.05m (193-08).
"I am proud of those athletes," Director of Navy Track and Field said after the meet. "Any time you get a school record, it is a significant accomplishment. We had three of them today. We had a couple of season-best marks. We tried to do things to gain confidence moving into next week, and I think a majority of the kids were able to do that. We are excited to go up to the Patriot League Championship and compete next week."
In addition to the three school records, the Midshipmen also had five additional performances that ranked in the all-time top 10. Collectively, the track and field team tallied 36 IC4A / ECAC qualifying times / marks – 16 women, 20 men.
Molly Mangan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) clocked a time of 11.82 in the 100m dash, which tied for the second fastest time in Navy history.
Orie recorded a distance of 14.67m (48-01.75) in the shot put, which is the fourth best in program history. For Orie, it was the third top-10 performance in the shot put this season.
Charlene Morke (Isanti, Minn.) registered a height of 3.87m (12-08.25) in the pole vault to claim the eighth best performance in Navy history.
The 4x100m relay team of
Ann Jackson (Roanoke, Va.), Mangan, Arthun, and
Sabrina Sutter (Shingletown, Calif.) combined for a time of 46.64. The time was the 10th fastest in school history.
Sutter nearly had the fourth fastest time in Navy history in the 200m dash with a time of 24.50, but the wind was above the allowance for the event.
Navy continues the outdoor season next weekend as the Midshipmen head up to West Point, N.Y. for the 2021 Patriot League Outdoor Championship.
