BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Navy women's lacrosse junior
Alexis Bell was named a finalist for the prestigious 2021 Yeardley Reynolds Love (YRL) Unsung Hero Award, the One Love Foundation announced on Tuesday.
Bell is one of five finalist among NCAA Division I, joining Colleen Huffman (Yale), Lila Nazarian (Syracuse), Molly Hagan (Notre Dame), and Molly Little (Denver). Of the five finalists, Bell is the only student-athlete who is not a senior.
In her career, Bell has played in 23 games with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers to her credit. Since her arrival with the team, Navy has gone 25-12 overall, including an 11-3 mark in the Patriot League. The team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2019 before having its 2020 season cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Off of the field, Bell is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as well as, a member of the Midshipman Black Studies Club. In addition, she is seeking out a leadership role on Navy Athletics' Diversity Committee for the upcoming year. Bell's goal is to serve as a naval flight officer after graduation.
The Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award recognizes the accomplishments of six student-athletes (two from each division) who help their teams achieve success in ways that may not be measured in goals, saves or ground balls. This honor places value on kindness and generosity, characteristics that are often undervalued in the competitively charged environment of college lacrosse.
The award recognizes the athlete who makes a significant contribution to the team while also bringing joy to teammates. The award recipients exhibit leadership as a positive role model and are involved in community service. The recipients are awarded a sum of money from the One Love Foundation to be given to their favorite charity.
