BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy's trio of
Kacey Moore (Jr., Wellington, Fla.),
Jillian Taggart (So., Fair Oaks, Calif.) and
Meghana Komarraju (Jr., Vienna, Va.) represented the Navy women's tennis team on the All-Patriot League teams, the league office announced on Tuesday. Moore and Taggart were named to the first team while Komarraju earned second-team honors.
All three individuals earn their first career All-Patriot League recognitions and the Midshipmen's three awards are tied for second-most in program history and most since the 2017 season when Navy also had three All-Patriot Leaguers.
Taggart played in nine singles matches and nine doubles matches with each of her appearances coming at the No. 1 position. The sophomore posted a record of 4-5 at the No. 1 singles spot where she went 2-1 within the Patriot League. In doubles, she posted a 6-3 record at No. 1 doubles while also winning two of her three doubles matches in Patriot League contests.
Moore finished the 2021 season with a 5-4 record in singles matches while going 4-3 at the No. 2 spot and was 1-1 at No. 1 singles. Moore also produced the match-clinching point for Navy in its 4-3 comeback win over Army in the Patriot League Semifinals. During her junior season, Moore finished with a 4-2 doubles record where she went 3-2 at No. 3 and 1-0 at No. 2. In league matches, Moore finished with a record of 3-2 in singles and 3-2 in doubles.
Komarraju played most of the season at Navy's No. 3 singles spot and No. 2 doubles position. She finished third on the team with six singles wins going 4-3 at No. 3 singles and then 2-1 at No. 2. Komarraju was also tied for the team lead in doubles victories this season after posting a record of 7-2 with her partner
Katreina Corpuz (Jr., Ewa Beach, Hawaii). The duo went 6-1 at No. 2 doubles and 1-1 at the top-flight in doubles.
Army's Ana Joyner was named the Patriot League Player of the Year with the Black Knights doubles team of Stephanie Dolehide and Caroline Vincent being named the doubles team of the year. Boston University's Kaitlin Tan and Lesley Sheehan were named the rookie of the year and coach of the year, respectively.
The Navy trio helped the Midshipmen finish the 2021 season with a record of 7-4 overall along with a 3-2 record in Patriot League matches. The Midshipmen also made their seventh appearance in the Patriot League Championship Match in the program's 12th season.
