ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association announced on Monday its list of 2021 IRCA Scholar-Athletes. Navy's heavyweight and lightweight programs were prominently highlighted in this announcement with a combined 28 honorees. This number was the highest combined total for any one institution on the list, while the lightweights' 18 honorees were the highest in the lightweight classification and second-highest overall amongst all IRCA programs, either heavyweight and lightweight.
Six recent Naval Academy graduates lead the list of top-producing student-athletes from Hubbard Hall as Peter Faber (Snohomish, Wash.), a mechanical engineering major and 2020-21 team captain of the heavyweight program is joined by lightweights
Duke Brady (Marietta, Ga. - quantitative economics major),
John Feng (McLean, Va. - computer science),
Howard Francis (Howard, Maine - political science),
Chris Greubel (Fairfax, Va. - aerospace engineering) and
Maggie Scholl (Annapolis, Md. - honors ocean engineering).
13 more lightweight rowers and coxswains were recognized to round out Navy's impressive list of 18 honorees. The five members of the Class of 2022 include,

Charlie Goodrich (Norwich, Vt. - mechanical engineering),
David Jackson (Spearman, Texas - applied mathematics),
Will Jarrett (Gales Ferry, Conn. - robotics and control engineering) and
Jack Spector (Weston, Mass. - aerospace engineering), while the eight Class of 2023 student-athletes consist of
Jackson Fuller (Winter Park, Fla. - chemistry),
Connor Gladieux (Fairfax Station, Va. - robotics & control engineering),
Jonathan Greenberg (Providence, R.I. - history),
Oliver Hasler (Duluth, Minn. - honors operations research),
Colby MaGill (Edmond, Okla. - chemistry),
Connor Rex (Alexandria, Va. - operations research),
Matt Ross (Anchorage, Alaska - operations research) and
Stephen Scholl (Annapolis, Md. - operations research).
In addition to the previously mentioned Faber, the heavyweights are represented by five rising seniors and four rising juniors. Matt Catanoso (Seaville, N.J. - aerospace engineering), Joseph Colley (Lebanon, Ohio - honors oceanography), Will Geib (Portland, Ore. - quantitative economics), Evan Robertson (Annapolis, Md. - aerospace engineering) and James Walsh (Bel Air, Md. - ocean engineering) make up the Class of 2022 honorees, while Nathaniel Erickson (Toledo, Ohio - nuclear engineering), Robert Freimuth (Dallas, Texas - physics), Carey Hutchens (Newport News, Va. - computer science) and Zack Shieh (Bowie, Md. - mechanical engineering) are members of the Naval Academy's Class of 2023.
For the 2021 season, all honorees needed to be in their second, third or fourth season of eligibility, competed in their program's top three boats during the regular season or raced at the IRA Championships in May and have a 3.50 cumulative GPA or higher through the end of the fall semester. In total, there were 403 rowers and coxswains from 53 different teams who met the criteria set by the IRCA Awards & Polling Committee.
