ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy's intercollegiate sailing team caps off its run of hosting three national championships as the Midshipmen host the ICSA Gill Coed National Championship on Monday and Tuesday in Annapolis.

Navy is coming into the third of three spring national championships after winning the ICSA LaserPerformance Team Race National Championship last week after posting a record of 17-2 over the two-day event.

The coed national championship features 18 teams as Navy is joined by Boston College, Brown, College of Charleston, George Washington, Georgetown, Hobart & William Smith, Jacksonville, North Carolina State, Roger Williams, St. Mary's, Stanford, Tulane, Coast Guard, Kings Point, UC Santa Barbara, Oregon and Rhode Island.

The Midshipmen earned their spot in the coed national championship after collecting 44 points to win the MAISA South Division title. At the conference championship, the two divisions completed eight races each where Navy's A division squad and B division squad finished with 22 points each. In the A division, Navy won three of the eight races while finishing second in two races. In the B division, the Midshipmen collected seven top-three finishes, which included two race wins.

During the 2019 Coed National Championship, Navy finished third overall at the championship and was just 10 points behind College of Charleston who won the national title. The Midshipmen did win the Robert H. Allan, Jr. Trophy for the lowest point total in the B division as their 65 points in the division was 33 points better than second-place Hobart & William Smith.

Last month, Navy started its run of home national championships with a sixth-place finish at the ICSA Women's National Championship. Olivia de Olazarra and Sally Johnson led Navy during the first doublehanded national championship of the spring with a second-place finish in the A division of the event.

The coed national championship also finishes the 2020-21 season for the Midshipmen.
