AUSTIN, Texas - The 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's Soccer Teams were announced last week and rising senior midfielder
Victoria Tran (Clarksville, Md.) was recognized as one of the top 33 student-athletes in the nation. Tran, the 2020-21 Patriot League Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, earned a spot on the exclusive CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team as the only non-fifth year or senior soccer player amongst the 11 members of the team. She has now earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in each of the first two years that she's been eligible.
Tran concludes her expansive list of 2020-21 accolades with this national honor. Since wrapping up her junior season in April in the first round of the NCAA Tournament versus New Mexico, the robotics and control engineering major has been named to the 2020-21 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Second Team, as well as to the All-District and All-Regional teams for both CoSIDA and the United Soccer Coaches organization. Holding a 3.97 GPA, Tran has thrived in her first three years on and off the field for Navy picking up All-Patriot League honors each and every season, while earning academic honors in each of the past two years since most awards require a full year of schooling as part of their eligibility. This past year, the Clarksville, Maryland native led Navy to the Patriot League title for the second straight season with team-highs in goals (3) and points (8). During the spring portion of the 2020-21 season, Tran had points in four of the five regular season games, including goals versus Colgate, Lehigh and American. In the United Soccer Coaches' postseason playing announcement in May, Tran was named to the All-North Region First Team. Academically, she earned 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-American Third Team honors following her sophomore season. At the Naval Academy, she currently ranks top-10 in the Overall Order of Merit and Military Order of Merit for the Class of 2022.
Tran is one of just five repeat performers from last year's teams. She joins Penn State's Kerry Abello, Georgia's Caroline Chipman, Oklahoma State's Hannah Webb and Stanford's Madison Haley. Abello was named the overall 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year for Division I Women's Soccer.
The College Sports Information Directors of America has been selecting the nation's pre-eminent Academic All-American team for over one-half of a century. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
Criteria for the award requires a student-athlete be at least a sophomore, earn a varsity letter in their sport and have attained a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average.
Nominees are first voted on by district, then all first-team all-district winners are placed onto a national ballot from which the Academic All-America teams are selected.
