Capobianco Named MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week

Caden Capobianco earned his first Defensive Player of the Week accolade.

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – The Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference announced its weekly awards and Navy's Caden Capobianco (Laguna Beach, Calif.) was selected as Defensive Player of the Week. It is the first weekly honor for the Midshipmen this season.

Capobianco helped Navy to a pair of victories at the Princeton Invitational over the weekend. The sophomore goalkeeper tallied 22 saves with 11 goals allowed and two steals in two games played.

He opened the competition with 10 saves and 7 goals allowed with a pair of steals as Navy defeated Brown, 11-7, marking the first win over the Bears since 2014. Capobianco worked the second half of Navy's 12-7 victory over Iona, tallying 12 saves, while allowing just four goals.

For the year, he has 44 saves and 10 steals in five games played.

It is the first Defensive Player of the Week accolade of Capobianco's career and his second MAWPC weekly award. Last season, the Laguna Beach native claimed Rookie of the Week distinction on Feb. 22, 2021.
