ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy offshore sailing team returned to action over the weekend, capturing the Shields Trophy in a field that featured a total of 10 teams.

At the Shields Trophy Regatta, the Midshipmen sailed strong over the first race of the event Saturday, leaving the first day of competition in second place trailing only Cal Maritime with Coast Guard just behind in third.

Navy dominated the second day of the event, posting scores of one, one and one over the final three races of the Shields Trophy on Sunday to secure the win. The winning Midshipmen crew included
Jackson DuPaix (Jr., San Luis Obispo),
Teagan Foley (Sr., Clear Lake Shores, Texas),
Langston Goldenberg (Fr., New Orleans, La.),
Patrick Michalik (Jr., Naperville, Ill.),
Madelyn Ploch (Jr., Stamford, Conn.) and
Joseph Zaladonis (Jr., Bethlehem, Pa.).

The Mids were set to compete in the Hospice Cup Regatta on Saturday, but saw the event be canceled due to nonexistent wind conditions.

Next up, Navy is set take part in a pair of events lasting Friday through Sunday. The Mids will host the U.S. Offshore Sailing Championship along with traveling to Chicago for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta.
