Navy dropped the first road game of its 2021-22 Patriot League slate on Sunday afternoon at Boston University by a score of 82-58. Close after one quarter of play, the Mids ran into an efficient Terrier squad that shot 50 percent in the second quarter and outscored the visitors, 25-12 in the period to break out a significant double-figure advantage that they never gave back at Case Gym.

Jennifer Coleman led the Mids' offensive effort on Sunday with her eighth double-double of the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Coming into the day ranked 11th in the nation in double-doubles she'll move into the top-10 nationally with Sunday's performance. Lindsay Llewellyn and Kristina Donza combined for 20 points as Llewellyn notched her second consecutive double-digit scoring output with 11, while Donza tallied nine points off the bench.

Sunday's contest in Boston began with even back-and-forth action over the majority of the first quarter as no team made more than two unanswered baskets in a row in the first 10 minutes of play. Tied 16-16 at the 3:21 mark of the first quarter, BU shut out Navy for the rest of the period and slowly put four points on the scoreboard. Opening the second quarter down 20-16, the Mids were unable to break out of that late slump as the Terriers kicked off the second period with an 11-1 run to go up 31-17 by the 8:06 mark of the period. Coleman started hitting her stride on the offensive end soon after and individually netted the next seven points over 3:03 to make it 31-24 as the game moved towards five minutes to go in the quarter. The momentum swung back in BU's favor over the next two-plus minutes with a 10-0 run. With the score 41-24 at 3:22, each team netted four points down the stretch to send the game into the halftime intermission at 45-28. As a team, BU shot 54.3 percent (19-35) from the field in the first half.

The third quarter mirrored the first stanza as the action was extremely back-and-forth with neither team registering more than two unanswered field goals in a row for the entire 10-minute period. That close play resulted in the Terriers holding leads between 15 and 20 points throughout the third. Five different Mids scored in the quarter with Coleman leading with four points, while Donza and Imani Edmonds each sank three-pointers.

Down 60-42 through three quarters of play, Boston University locked down the victory with a 22-point fourth quarter on 47.1 percent (8-17) shooting. Navy's 16-point effort in the final quarter was spearheaded by six points each from Coleman and Donza. The host Terriers tallied their first Patriot League win of the season with an 82-58 final decision.

Boston University held advantages over Navy in field goal shooting, 49.3 percent (34-69) to 33.8 (22-65), in three-point shooting 38.9 percent (7-18) to 30.0 (6-20) and at the foul line, 70.0 (7-10) to 44.4 (8-18).

The taller Terrier team won the rebounding battle, 52-34 and corralled four more offensive boards than the Mids, 16 to 12. Coleman led Navy with 11 rebounds. In 15 minutes off the bench, Savanna Lewis grabbed five rebounds, including three on the offensive end.

Navy's ballhandling was effective on Sunday as the Mids turned the ball over a season-low nine times and recorded eight assists. Coleman had five of those helpers. On the opposite side of the ledger, Navy forced BU into 14 turnovers and was credited with eight steals. Coleman registered a game-high four steals.

Last Time Out: Navy at Colgate, Wednesday, January 12
The Navy women's basketball team held on for a tightly contested three-point win on the road Wednesday over Colgate in a Kid's Day game. Tipping off at 11:00 a.m. at Cotterell Court on the campus of Colgate, the Mids used efficient shooting all game to knock off the Raiders on their home court. Navy shot 50.0 percent from the field in each of the first, third and fourth quarters, while knocking down 40.0 percent of its three-point attempts and 83.3 percent of its foul shots on its way to victory.

Jennifer Coleman and Mimi Schrader were at the forefront of the Mids' offensive effort on Wednesday as the duo combined for 41 points and six three-pointers. Coleman was the game's leading scorer as she notched her 10th double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Additionally, she tallied a game-high five assists and grabbed two steals. Schrader was nearly perfect from the court in 32 minutes of action off the bench as she posted a career-best 18 points on 5-6 shooting from the floor and a 4-5 mark from three-point range. She was also 4-5 from the foul line. Sydne Watts gave Navy three players in double-figures as she went for 12 points against Colgate. The Mids are now 3-0 in 2021-22 when at least three players reach double figures in scoring.

The action on Wednesday morning opened evenly over the first six-plus minutes as the score was knotted at 12-12 at the 3:13 mark. Down the stretch, the Mids scored eight of the final 12 points of the period to take a 20-16 lead into the quarter break. Coleman put an exclamation point on the proceedings with a buzzer-beating pull-up jumper with zeroes flashing on the scoreboard.

Riding that momentum, Navy continued to put space in-between itself and Colgate on the strength of an efficient start to the second quarter by Watts and Schrader. Over the first five minutes of action, the duo netted 10 points with Watts scoring the first four points for the Mids before Schrader went back-to-back with made three-pointers. Ahead 30-22 at 4:56, Coleman put Navy up 10 at 3:54. Colgate didn't take kindly to falling behind by double-digits in front of its home fans and promptly closed the half with a 7-0 run over the final 3:31 of action.

Similar to the momentum that Navy felt going from the first to second quarters, Colgate used its run at the end of the second to springboard its comeback attempt in the third quarter. Coming out of the locker room down 32-28, the Raiders raced out to a 40-37 lead by the 4:56 mark of play. Held to just five points over this stretch, Ciera Hertelendy netted four of those points for the Mids, including an offensive rebound and putback that led to a successful 'and-one' situation. Trailing by three points with less than five minutes to go in the quarter, Navy locked down Colgate defensively and allowed just six point the rest of the stanza, while clicking offensively to the tune of 14 points. Coleman took over this run of play with a pair of three-pointers and two free throws.

With the score, 51-46 in favor of the visiting Mids through 30 minutes of action, the Raiders swung the lead back to their side of the ledger with a 7-0 run to start the fourth quarter. Unfazed, Navy mirrored that early outpoint by Colgate with seven points of its own in the form of layups by Lindsay Llewellyn, Coleman and another three-pointer from Schrader at 6:58. The game stayed at that five-point margin over the next five-plus minutes as each squad recorded six points. Following Watts' layup at 1:41 that made it 64-59, the Mids withstood a final push by the Raiders and held the hosts to just one made field goal on five attempts, including three looks at a game-tying three-pointer with less than 10 seconds to go in the game. A late free throw by Schrader wrapped up the scoring on Wednesday with Navy victorious by a count of 65-62.

Navy outshot Colgate, 47.8 percent (22-46) to 41.1 (23-56) in field goal shooting and 40.0 (6-15) to 21.1 (4-19) in three-point shooting. Both teams shot well from the foul line with the Raiders holding a slight 85.7 percent (12-14) to 83.3 (15-18) edge in free throw marksmenship.

In the rebounding battle, bolstered by Coleman's game-high 10 boards, the Mids finished with six more rebounds than the Raiders, 33 to 27. Watts and Hertelendy were also strong on the glass for Navy as Watts grabbed seven rebounds, while Hertelendy got six over 18 minutes of action.
