POWELL'S POINT, N.C. — The Navy men's golf team concluded its fall season on Tuesday by placing sixth among a field of 16 teams at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate. The Mids, who shot their lowest round of the tournament on Tuesday, covered the par-71 Kilmarlic Golf Course with a 28-over par 880 (297-294-289) over the course of three days.
Last year, team captain and 2022 graduate
Chad Deegan shot par (213) to lead the way for the Mids, while this year, it was his younger brother
Chip Deegan (Fr / Newport Beach, Calif.) who turned in an identical mark to pace the Mids with his first-career top-10 finish. Deegan shot the team's low score in each of the final two rounds, including Tuesday's final round where he turned in a 2-under par 69 that featured an eagle on the 12th hole to secure a tie for eighth place.
Team captain
Keegan Shreves (Sr / Potomac, Md.) was consistent throughout the three-day tournament where he placed 27th with a 6-over par 219 (72-74-73).
Owen Huntington (So / Camas, Wash.) recovered from a slow start to turn in marks of 74 and 73 in the final two rounds to finish 12-over (225) and in 51st. Sophomores
Noah Nuez (Laveen, Ariz.) and
Benjamin Valdez (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) both shot a 16-over par 229 to place 62nd. Valdez opened up strong, but sputtered in the final round (75-75-79), while Nuez hit his stride in the final round where he closed out the tournament with a 3-over par 74 (77-78-74).
