Patriot League Season Begins Friday at Boston for Men's Basketball

The Navy men's basketball team will open its 32nd Patriot League season Friday when the Mids (7-5) play at Boston U. (7-6) in a 2 p.m. game.

Game Day Info
•    The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
•    There will not be a local radio broadcast of the game.
•     Live statistics will be available through NavySports.com.

Last Game - VCU 74, Navy 52
•    Navy scored the first 11 points of the game and took a 20-7 lead.  VCU tied the game at 24 and took a 37-30 lead at halftime.
•    The Mids made it a 37-35 game in the opening minutes of the second half.  The Rams went on an 18-3 run to build a 55-38 lead.
•    VCU closed the game on a 10-2 run.
•    VCU held a 46-24 advantage in points scored in the paint, as well as a 27-14 edge in bench points.
•    Tyler Nelson totaled 17 points and eight rebounds.  He was one of three Mids to score in double figures.

About Boston U.
•    Boston U. finished its pre-league slate of games with a 7-6 record.  That overall mark includes a 4-0 record in home games.
•    The Terriers saw their two-game winning streak end with a 68-60 loss at UMass Lowell just before Christmas.
•    Boston U. also has suffered a six-point loss at Notre Dame and dropped a game at UConn.  

Navy-Boston U. Series
•    Boston U. leads the all-time series with Navy by the count of 12-8.  However, the Mids hold a 6-3 advantage over the Terriers in games played in Boston, which includes a 6-1 edge in games played in Case Gym.
•    Boston U. leads Navy, 9-7, in Patriot League regular season games played between the teams.  The Mids lead the Terriers, 6-2, in league regular season games played in Boston.  This includes a 6-0 advantage in such games played at Case Gym.
•    Conversely, the Terriers have posted a 7-2 record against the Mids in games played in Annapolis.
•    Navy won each of the three games played between the teams last season, which included an 85-80 overtime contest played in the semifinal round of the Patriot League Tournament.
•    The teams originally met in the regional semifinal round of the 1959 NCAA Tournament. The Terriers defeated the Mids, 62-55 in overtime, in the game that was played in Charlotte, N.C.
•    The only additional meeting of the teams prior to Boston U. joining the Patriot League took place on Dec. 30, 1988, when the Terriers defeated the Mids, 75-54, in a game played in Santa Clara, Calif.

Miscellaneous Game Records
•    Navy has posted a 23-19 record in games played on Dec. 30.  This includes a 0-2 record in Patriot League regular season games played on the date.
•    The Mids have tallied a 59-69 record against teams located in Massachusetts.
•    Navy has compiled a 23-35 record in games played in Massachusetts.
•    The Mids have totaled a 14-17 record in their first game of a Patriot League season, as well as an 18-23 overall record in their first game of a conference season.

Navy in League Opener
•    The Mids have won their first game of a Patriot League season in each of the last four years.  
•    The only other span in which Navy won its league opener in as many as four-straight years was when it won six in a row from 1996-01.

Up Next
•    Navy opens its league home slate on Jan. 2 when the Mids play host to Holy Cross.
•    The Crusaders head into their league opener at home against Bucknell with a 3-10 record.

Another Winning Pre-PL Season
•    Navy ended its pre-Patriot League schedule with a 7-5 record.
•    The Mids posted a winning record in non-league games for the fourth year in a row and the fifth time in six seasons.
•    The only other time Navy posted a winning record against non-league foes in as many as four-straight seasons was when it did so six years in a row from 1981-82 through 1986-87 when the Mids were part of the ECAC South (four years) and Colonial Athletic Association (two years).
