ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Seeding and an all-important home court advantage for the upcoming Patriot League Womens Basketball Tournament will be on the line Saturday afternoon in Annapolis when the Navy Midshipmen host the Colgate Raiders at 4 p.m. in Alumni Hall. Currently tied in eighth place with four league wins each, a victory by the Mids (7-19, 4-12 PL) in their second-to-last game of the season would lock up a home date in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament next Saturday, March 5 due to a season sweep of the Raiders (6-21, 4-12 PL). These two squads met earlier this year in Hamilton, N.Y. and Navy came away with a 65-62 victory. Saturday will also have an important role to the Navy program as the Mids will celebrate their Senior Class of
Jennifer Coleman,
Darryl Langford and team captain
Ciera Hertelendy with a pregame ceremony beginning at 3:30 p.m. The Navy-Colgate game will be streamed on ESPN+ and is presented by First Command.
ESPN+ is a subscription-based streaming service that requires patrons to sign-up for monthly or yearly plans prior to tuning into the contest.
Coleman's Record Watch
Already Navy's single-season leader in points scored with 583 (previous record was 530 by Courtney Davidson in '02-03) and most defensive rebounds in a season with 229 caroms (previous mark was 204), Coleman will turn her attention to Navy's single-season total rebounding record of 286 by Angela Smith in 1982-83. Coleman currently has 281 total rebounds this campaign. Additionally, she has her eyes on the 8th-best scoring season in Patriot League history as she trailed Colgate's Suzanne Bowen, who netted 594 points in 1990-91. After Bowen, seventh-place is possessed by Holy Cross' Amy O'Brien, who recorded 643 points in 1998-99.

Looking Back at Navy-Colgate ... January 12, 2022 in Hamilton
The Navy women's basketball team held on for a tightly contested three-point win on the road over Colgate in a Kid's Day game on Jan. 12. Tipping off at 11:00 a.m. at Cotterell Court on the campus of Colgate, the Mids used efficient shooting all game to knock off the Raiders on their home court. Navy shot 50.0 percent from the field in each of the first, third and fourth quarters, while knocking down 40.0 percent of its three-point attempts and 83.3 percent of its foul shots on its way to victory.
Jennifer Coleman and
Mimi Schrader were at the forefront of the Mids' offensive effort on Wednesday as the duo combined for 41 points and six three-pointers. Coleman was the game's leading scorer as she notched her 10th double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Additionally, she tallied a game-high five assists and grabbed two steals. Schrader was nearly perfect from the court in 32 minutes of action off the bench as she posted a career-best 18 points on 5-6 shooting from the floor and a 4-5 mark from three-point range. She was also 4-5 from the foul line.
Sydne Watts gave Navy three players in double-figures as she went for 12 points against Colgate. The Mids are now 3-0 in 2021-22 when at least three players reach double figures in scoring.
The action on Wednesday morning opened evenly over the first six-plus minutes as the score was knotted at 12-12 at the 3:13 mark. Down the stretch, the Mids scored eight of the final 12 points of the period to take a 20-16 lead into the quarter break. Coleman put an exclamation point on the proceedings with a buzzer-beating pull-up jumper with zeroes flashing on the scoreboard.
Riding that momentum, Navy continued to put space in-between itself and Colgate on the strength of an efficient start to the second quarter by Watts and Schrader. Over the first five minutes of action, the duo netted 10 points with Watts scoring the first four points for the Mids before Schrader went back-to-back with made three-pointers. Ahead 30-22 at 4:56, Coleman put Navy up 10 at 3:54. Colgate didn't take kindly to falling behind by double-digits in front of its home fans and promptly closed the half with a 7-0 run over the final 3:31 of action.
Similar to the momentum that Navy felt going from the first to second quarters, Colgate used its run at the end of the second to springboard its comeback attempt in the third quarter. Coming out of the locker room down 32-28, the Raiders raced out to a 40-37 lead by the 4:56 mark of play. Held to just five points over this stretch,
Ciera Hertelendy netted four of those points for the Mids, including an offensive rebound and putback that led to a successful 'and-one' situation. Trailing by three points with less than five minutes to go in the quarter, Navy locked down Colgate defensively and allowed just six point the rest of the stanza, while clicking offensively to the tune of 14 points. Coleman took over this run of play with a pair of three-pointers and two free throws.
With the score, 51-46 in favor of the visiting Mids through 30 minutes of action, the Raiders swung the lead back to their side of the ledger with a 7-0 run to start the fourth quarter. Unfazed, Navy mirrored that early outpoint by Colgate with seven points of its own in the form of layups by
Lindsay Llewellyn, Coleman and another three-pointer from Schrader at 6:58. The game stayed at that five-point margin over the next five-plus minutes as each squad recorded six points. Following Watts' layup at 1:41 that made it 64-59, the Mids withstood a final push by the Raiders and held the hosts to just one made field goal on five attempts, including three looks at a game-tying three-pointer with less than 10 seconds to go in the game. A late free throw by Schrader wrapped up the scoring on Wednesday with Navy victorious by a count of 65-62.
Navy outshot Colgate, 47.8 percent (22-46) to 41.1 (23-56) in field goal shooting and 40.0 (6-15) to 21.1 (4-19) in three-point shooting. Both teams shot well from the foul line with the Raiders holding a slight 85.7 percent (12-14) to 83.3 (15-18) edge in free throw marksmenship.

Last Time Out: Navy at Loyola, Wednesday, February 23
Playing in its final regular season road game of the year, the Navy women's basketball team was defeated by Loyola, 56-42 on Wednesday night at Reitz Arena. A lengthy 16-4 run by the Greyhounds (5-21, 2-14 PL) over the middle portion of the contest left the Mids (7-19, 4-12 PL) in a hole that a spirited fourth quarter would be unable to overcome.
The duo of Jennifer Coleman and Lindsay Llewellyn spearheaded Navy's attack on Wednesday as the pair combined for 35 points, 12 rebounds and six steals. Coleman netted a game-high 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting to go along with seven rebounds, four steals and three assists, while Llewellyn finished with 13 points, five rebounds and two steals. That scoring output by Coleman is her 20th game with 20 or more points this season.
The action at Reitz Arena opened evenly as the scoreboard showed a 6-5 score in favor of the Mids through 4:06 of play. Coleman was the early spark for Navy with all six of those points. Once the Greyhounds got their offense engaged, the hosts ran off 10 unanswered points over the next four-plus minutes to go up 15-6 by the 1:38 mark. A three-pointer by Llewellyn and jumper by Coleman at the end of the period finalized the first quarter's score at 15-11 for Loyola. Building off that late success, Llewellyn came out in Navy's first possession and swished another three-pointer. With the score tightened to one point, 15-14 at 9:21, Loyola responded with a 14-3 run over the next 7:26. Coleman ended that drought with a pull-up jumper at 1:55. A Morganne Andrews elbow jumper at the end of the shot clock with 29 seconds remaining helped draw the Mids within eight going into the halftime intermission. At the half, Coleman and Llewellyn were a combined 8-of-15 from the field with 19 of the Mids' points.
Coming out of the break ahead 29-21, Loyola locked down Navy defensively and held the Mids without a point for the opening 7:15 of the third quarter. During this scoreless segment, the Greyhounds were able to slowly break open a 17-point lead, 38-21. A flurry of activity for Navy over a three-possession stretch made it a 13-point game, 40-27; the exclamation point for the Mids during this successful run was long defensive rebound by Llewellyn and a breakout pass to Darryl Langford, who drew contact and finished for a physical layup with 38 seconds left. That margin was short-lived as a late jumper by Loyola's Taleah Dixon concluded the period at a 42-27 mark.
Loyola reached its game-high lead of 17 points again, 74 seconds into the fourth quarter before Navy rattled off a 13-2 run from 8:28 through 3:28. The bench ignited this run as Langford found Savanna Lewis for the initial layup. Made baskets led to full-court pressure by the Mids and the Greyhounds became turnover prone and coughed up the basketball five times during this five-minute span. Down 12, Coleman rattled off the final eight points of Navy's run, including a three-pointer at 3:28 to make it a 46-40 contest. With the score the same and the game clock running under two minutes to play, the teams traded two points each to advance the score to 48-42. An 8-for-8 showing at the foul line over the final 80 seconds helped Loyola to the 56-42 final margin of victory.
For the game, Loyola outshot Navy in all three shooting metrics, 38.0 percent (19-50) to 34.0 (17-50) from the field, 42.9 percent (6-14) to 17.4 (4-23) from three-point range and 75.0 (12-16) to 44.4 (4-9) from the foul line.
