ANNAPOLIS, Md. – For their efforts in helping Navy men's and women's track and field sweep the 2022 Patriot League Indoor Championships,
Baynes Autrey (Mountain Brook, Ala.) and Erin Higgins (Ashburn, Va.) were named co-NAAA Athletes of the Week presented by Northrop Grumman.
Autrey was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Meet at the Patriot League indoor Championship. The junior won the heptathlon with a school record 5,510 total points. He won five of the seven events that make up the heptathlon on his way to winning the event. In addition, Autrey finished seventh in the 60m hurdles and came in eighth place in the long jump, scoring points for the Midshipmen in both events.
Higgins won the pentathlon for the Midshipmen with a total score of 3,834, breaking the Navy and the Patriot League Championship records in the process. The senior broke the Navy school record in the event by 125 total points. In addition, Higgins ran the third leg of the 4x400m relay team that finished second to earn Second Team All-Patriot League distinction. To go along with her all-conference performances, Higgins also competed in the high jump for the Midshipmen.
