ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track & field teams will cap their spring break trip to the West Coast by competing at the Sea Lion Invite on Saturday at the PLNU Track & Field Complex in San Diego, Calif. Field events are scheduled to begin at noon ET, followed by the running events at 2:30 p.m. ET.
The meet will be streamed on the PacWest Network, with links available on navysports.com. Fans also can follow the action through live results on FinishedResults.com.
Saturday's meet will be Navy's second competition of the outdoor season but the first to also include the track runners.
Navy at Point Loma
The Mids will compete at Point Loma for the fifth-consecutive season on Saturday. At last year's meet, the men's 4x100-meter relay team of
Marcel Jackson,
Nathan Kent,
Jonah Johnson and
Tyler Yurich set a program record with a time of 39.77. The foursome broke the previous mark set in 2018 by 19-hundredths of a second.
Jackson, Kent, Johnson and Yurich also competed in the 100 meters and swept the top four spots. Yurich won the event with a career-best 10.49 and Jackson finished second with a personal-best 10.56. They were followed by Kent's 10.58 (3rd) and Johnson's 10.60 (4th).
Zoie Tesi will look to have another strong campaign in San Diego. She highlighted last year's meet by winning the high jump (1.68 meters / 5-6) and placing second in the triple jump with a personal-best mark at the time of 11.67 meters (38-3.5).
Sophie Compton won the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:25.89, which ranked ninth in Navy history at the time, and finished second in the 800 meters in 2:13.60 in last year's meet in San Diego.
Last Time Out
Navy opened its outdoor season last week at the Long Beach Opener in Long Beach, Calif., where the throwers competed in the shot put and discus.
Hunter-Robins Mann paced the Midshipmen in the men's shot put as he placed ninth with a mark of 15.66 meters (51-4.50).
Hayden Overgaard followed in 13th place at 14.45 meters (47-5), while
Blake Thompson was 16th with a throw of 13.97 meters (45-10).
Dominic Dogue (13.93 meters / 45-8.50),
Adam Szatanek (13.21 meters / 43-4.25) and
Aaron Spears (12.73 meters / 41-9.25) also competed in the event, finishing 18th, 21st and 22nd, respectively.
Szatanek led Navy's discus competitors with a 15th-place finish at 45.63 meters (149-8). Mann followed in 16th place at 45.16 meters (148-2), while Overgaard placed 20th at 42.96 meters (140-11). Also, Thompson finished in 22nd place at 42.59 meters (139-8) and Spears rounded out the Navy competitors in 25th place with a mark of 40.57 meters (41-9.25).
Gretchen Hurt led the way for the Mids in the women's shot put with her sixth-place showing at 13.56 meters (44-6). Julia Norris followed in eighth place at 13.38 meters (43-10.75) and Nalina Smith took 14th place at 12.17 meters (39-11.25).
The trio also competed in the discus, where Norris recorded the top Navy mark with a throw of 39.45 meters (129-5) to place 16th. Smith finished 19th at 38.78 meters (127-2) and Hurt was 23rd with a mark of 33.69 meters (119-5).
