ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Rising senior Nick Simmons of the Navy track & field team will represent the United States and the Naval Academy in the decathlon at the International University Sports Federation (FISU) America Games in Lima, Peru. The two-day event begins Friday at 9:20 a.m. ET and resumes Saturday at 8:40 a.m. ET.
 
Navy assistant coach Chris Johnson will join Simmons in Lima, serving as the multi-events coach for Team USA.

Simmons heads to the international stage following a breakout 2025-26 junior campaign under Johnson. The multi-event standout swept the Patriot League championships in the indoor heptathlon and outdoor decathlon, earning first-team all-conference honors in both seasons.
 
During the indoor slate, Simmons posted a career-best 5,174 points in the heptathlon to secure the league crown. He elevated his game even further outdoors, recording a massive 7,413-point decathlon at the Navy Spring Invitational — the second-best score in program history. Simmons then capped his season by earning Patriot League Field Athlete of the Meet honors after capturing the league's decathlon title with 7,244 points.
 
Johnson has found extensive success during his five seasons at Navy, leading the program's high jumpers and multi-event athletes. During his tenure, he has coached 10 NCAA East First Round qualifiers, 25 Patriot League champions and 62 Patriot League medalists.
