EUGENE, Ore. – Navy pole vaulter
Brian Schloeder concluded his historic season by earning Honorable Mention All-America recognition at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Wednesday night at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The sophomore became the first pole vaulter in program history to garner All-America honors.
"The expectation I had for Brian was to go compete extremely hard, and he did that by posting the third-best mark in school history to accomplish a feat no other Navy pole vaulter has done," said assistant coach
Rory Quiller. "The wind was switching a bit, which proved to give the bigger guys some problems. I'm incredibly proud of him. He's only a sophomore and he's nowhere close to his limits, so he'll come back next year even stronger."
Schloeder began his day strong, clearing 5.20 meters (17-0.75) on his first attempt. The Rockford, Minn., native later cleared 5.35 meters (17-6.5), the third-best height in program history, on his third attempt. Schloeder capped off the championships with a school-record attempt at 5.50 meters (18-0.5) but missed on all three tries, finishing tied for 19th with Cal Poly's Ben Feyrer.
"We have a lot of young talent and we have more coming in," Quiller said. "Brian knows he's one of the better guys in the country and there are some days he's not the best at practice. Knowing that keeps him on his toes. But most importantly, he knows that iron sharpens iron and these athletes hold each other accountable. That's what Navy track & field means."
