ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy men's team (4-2) split a pair of matches Saturday.  The Mids first lost a road match at Penn (3-0) by the score of 7-0, then posted a 6-1 victory over Saint Joseph's (0-1) at home in the Tose Family Tennis Center.

Navy had a great chance to win the doubles point in its match against Penn.  Navy's No. 2 tandem of Jake Fishkin (Sr., Baltimore, Md.) and Jack McBride (Sr., Chapel Hill, N.C.) posted a 6-3 win over Tal Goodman and Baylor Sai.  At the No.1 flight, Penn's Harsh Parikh and Kevin Zhu edged Sasha Panyan (So., Lutherville, Md.) and Derrick Thompson (Sr., Towson, Md.), 7-5.  In the remaining match at No. 3 doubles, Penn's Aditya Gupta and Zach Smith posted a 6-2 win over Cy McLeod (Fr., Augusta, Ga.) and William Pak (So., Chantilly, Va.) to give the Quakers the 1-0 lead.

The Quakers went on to win each of the six singles matches, four of which were decided in straight sets.  In the remaining two matches, Gupta defeated Thompson, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, at the No. 1 flight and Smith edged Panyan, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9), at No. 4 singles.

Navy would win two of the three doubles matches against Saint Joseph's to earn the point.  The Mids then won five of the six singles matches to come away with the victory.  

Jack Dabek (Sr., Dublin, Ohio) and Finn Garner (Jr., Arnold, Md.) combined for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles.  Dabek would go on to win his No. 3 singles match by the score of 6-2, 6-0, and Garner posted a 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) victory at No. 1 singles.  Luke Garner (Fr., Arnold, Md.) was the third Mid to win both in singles and doubles in the dual.  He first teamed with Christian Pumpelly (Jr., Atlanta, Ga.) for a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles, then recorded a 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) victory at No. 5 singles.

Navy will be in the Tose Family Tennis Center for two matches Sunday.  The Mids will face Coppin State at 9 a.m. and Georgetown at noon.
