BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its weekly women's lacrosse award winners and Navy senior
Grace Loughery (Perkasie, Pa.) was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week. Loughery helped lead Navy to a 15-3 victory over Bucknell on Saturday afternoon to open Patriot League play.
The senior anchored the Navy defense that held Bucknell to just three goals in the game, leading the team with two caused turnovers and five ground balls. Loughery and the Navy defense kept the Bison scoreless for the first quarter and the first 23-plus minutes of the game, allowing just one goal in the second, third, and fourth quarters. In addition, Loughery had a hand in limiting the Bison's top five leading goal scorers to just two goals combined.
Navy (7-1, 1-0 Patriot League) returns to action next week with a pair of home games. The Midshipmen open the week with a nonconference game against Georgetown (4-4) at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, before closing out the week with a Patriot League matchup against Lehigh (3-4, 0-1) at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26.
