#8 Women’s Lacrosse Welcomes Boston University on Saturday

Opening draw between the Midshipmen and Terriers is slated for 11:00 a.m.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The #8/8 Navy women's lacrosse team (11-1, 3-1 Patriot League) is set to host Boston University (6-6, 2-2 Patriot League) on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, aired on WNAV, and live stats will be available.
 
All-Time Series
The game marks the 14th meeting between the two teams. Navy holds a 10-3 (.769) overall record against Boston with a 5-1 record in Annapolis and a 3-1 mark in Beantown. Last season, the Midshipmen defeated the Terriers, 16-8, at Nickerson Field in Boston.
 
The Mids have won 10 of the last 11 meetings in the series. The Midshipmen had won seven in a row against the Terriers prior to BU's one-goal victory (W, 12-11) in Boston during the 2023 season. Navy avenged the loss later in the season in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament, defeating BU, 20-13, in Annapolis. In 2024, the Mids defeated Boston, 20-9 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
 
Seven (7) of the 13 games played between the two teams have been decided by three goals or less with five games decided by one goal. Four of the five contests played in Boston have been decided by three goals or less.
 
Third-year BU assistant coach Brindi Griffin used to be an assistant coach with Navy, spending two seasons with the Midshipmen (2022-23), helping the Mids to 28 victories during her tenure.
 
Scouting the Midshipmen
The Navy women's lacrosse team enters the weekend 11-1 on the season, including a 3-1 mark in the Patriot League. The Midshipmen have held six opponents this season to single digits, including three conference opponents.
 
As a team, the Midshipmen have tallied 176 goals with 85 assists, while picking up 205 ground balls, winning 168 draw controls, and causing 97 turnovers.
 
Entering the weekend, Alyssa Chung, Taylor Miles, Ava Yovino, Emma Kennedy, and Mikayla Williams lead the team with 30 or more points apiece.
 
Chung paces the team with 55 points on a team-high 41 goals with 14 assists to her credit. The sophomore has registered 25 multi-goal games (33 games total) with 21 hat tricks, including multiple scores in all 13 Patriot League games played with 11 hat tricks.
 
Miles, who recorded three straight goals in the Mids' comeback attempt at #22 Loyola, follows with 41 points on 27 goals and 14 assists, while Yovino has notched 37 points thanks to 16 goals and a team-high 21 assists. Kennedy is second on the team with 28 goals, adding six assists for 34 points, while Williams rounds out the Midshipmen's top five with 30 points on 21 goals and nine assists.
 
Maggie DeFabio, Anna Gotterup, and Bella Paradiso close out the Mids double-digit point scorers. DeFabio has 16 points on 13 goals and three assists, while Gotterup follows with 13 points on a balanced six goals and seven assists. Paradiso has 10 points on seven goals and three assists to close out the double-digit point scorers.
 
Chloe Brown and Kat McAteer add six points apiece. Brown has five goals and an assist, while McAteer has a balanced three scores and three helpers. Caroline Gage and Rowan Kimmel have five and two points, respectively. Gage has four scores and an assist, while Kimmel has one goal and an assist. Landen Cain (1a), Julia Frosch (1a), Grace Mitchell (1g), Natalie O'Neill (1g), Zoe Ryan (1g), and Lily Schmalz (1g) close out the scoring with one point each.
 
Defensively, the Midshipmen have held their opponents to 8.67 goals per game. The Navy defense has held six opponents – Villanova (5 goals), High Point (6 goals), South Florida (8 goals), Bucknell (6 goals), Holy Cross (3 goals), and Lehigh (6 goals) – to single-digit goals.
 
The Mids have caused 97 of their opponents' 183 turnovers (53.0 percent). Yovino, Felicia Giglio, and Jaclyn Johns lead the team with 14, 12, and 10 caused turnovers, correspondingly. DeFabio is three back with seven, while Chung, Gage, Schmalz, and Jalin Jenkins are tied with six apiece.
 
Giglio leads the team with 33 ground balls with Yovino following with 29 ground ball pickups. DeFabio has 20, while Gage and Johns add 14 apiece. Cain (13), Jenkins (10), Kennedy (10), and Schmalz (10) close out Navy's double-digit ground balls.
 
Giglio has played and started each game for Navy in the cage, working 681:55 minutes of action between the posts. The junior goalie has 83 of the Mids' 89 saves on the year with an 8.71 goals against average and 45.6 save percentage.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Angelina Price has posted six saves in over under 36 and a half minutes of action (36:35), while sophomore Lila Stachowski saw her first collegiate action against High Point, working the final 90 seconds at goal in the Mids' 14-6 victory.
 
In the circle, Maura Murphy boasts a team-high 78 draw wins. The senior notched her first double-digit draw performance against High Point (14), while adding 11 draw wins against Lehigh. Against the Mountain Hawks, Murphy eclipsed the 100-draw plateau. Yovino follows with 43 draws, while Kennedy adds 20 draw wins and Williams has 12.
 
Scouting the Opposition
Boston University enters the weekend with a 6-6 overall record with an 2-2 mark in the Patriot League. The Terriers enter the game having defeated American, 16-5, at home as part of Senior Day.
 
BU is led by Tess Geddes and Elle Stevenson who boast 35 and 31 points, respectively. Stevenson leads the team with 29 goals to go along with a pair of assists for 31 points, while Geddes has 28 goals and seven assists for a team-best 35 points. Avery Cutair follows with 24 points with a team-best 20 assists goals, while adding four goals. Jayne Feeney (12g 4a), Makenzie McDevitt (13g 3a), and Izabella Amonte (15g 1a) round out Boston's top-five point scorers with 16 points apiece.
 
Siri Hodgins leads the team with 27 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers, while Kaitlyn Barton has a team-high 69 draw controls.
 
Natalie Aiosa has played and started all 12 games for the Terriers this season. She has recorded 90 saves with 118 goals allowed in 689:45 minutes of work for a 43.3 save percentage and a 10.26 goals against average.
 
Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-Americans
Inside Lacrosse announced its Nike Lacrosse Midseason Media All-Americans and a pair of Navy women's lacrosse student-athletes were named to the list. Sophomore Alyssa Chung was named to the second team, while senior team captain Ava Yovino claimed honorable mention accolades.
 
Midway through the season, Chung leads the team with 55 points on a team-high 41 goals with 14 assists. Through 12 games, she has 10 multiple goal games, including seven hat tricks. Additionally, the Severna Park native leads the team with 13 free-position goals, while being credited with a team-high four game-winning goals this season. In her career, Chung has 136 points on 107 goals with 29 assists in 33 games played.
 
Yovino has 37 points on 16 goals and a team-high 21 assists, while adding 43 draw controls, 29 ground balls, and 14 caused turnovers. She has recorded a point in 10 of 12 games this season with goals in nine contests. The senior has 161 career points on 76 goals and 85 assists with 97 draw controls, 93 ground balls, and 49 caused turnovers to her credit. It is the second time that Yovino has been named an IL Midseason All-American, claiming third-team honors as a freshman.
