Tannenbaum Recognized as Patriot League Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After helping lead the Navy women's tennis team (21-5, 4-1 Patriot League) to a 1-1 record by winning each of her four matches last week, standout freshman Emily Tannenbaum (Fr., Commack, N.Y.) was selected as the Patriot League Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

Tannenbaum opened the week by leading the charge for the Midshipmen in a 6-1 victory over Loyola, teaming up with Casey Accola (Jr., Winter Garden, Fla.) to earn a five-point win over the Greyhounds' Abby Decker and Genevieve Wurtz (6-1) at the No. 3 doubles.

The freshman capped off her stellar performance against Loyola with a convincing straight-set win over Lauren Manwiller (6-1, 6-0) at the No. 2 singles.

In Saturday's match against Boston University, Tannenbaum once again paired up with Accola at the No. 3 position in doubles. The pairing earned a hard-fought win (7-5) over BU's Victoria Carlsten and Sydney Sharma that included fending off a three-point rally by the Terrier duo to tie the match at 5-5.

The freshman capped off her outstanding two-match stretch with a straight-set victory at the No. 2 singles over BU's Kaitlin Tan (6-3, 6-3).

On the season, Tannenbaum leads the way for Navy in singles with a 24-11 record. The 24 singles victories are tied for the fifth-most for a single season in team history. The newcomer also has 46 combined wins this season between doubles and singles competition, the second-best season total for a Navy women's tennis player.

After concluding the regular season with the aforementioned match against Boston University on Saturday, Navy is slated to begin postseason play this week as it takes part in the Patriot League Tournament. Seeding for the competition is set to be announced Tuesday afternoon.
