ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy intercollegiate sailing team returned to action for two races over the weekend, highlighted by a second-place finish at the George Washington Invitational. The Midshipmen also participated in the Admiral's Cup Regatta, finishing 10th in the 17-team field.
Â
At the GW Invitational, Navy was greeted by favorable conditions but did have to battle through light and fickle winds on the racecourse. Despite the light conditions, 14 races were sailed in the combined division and the Midshipmen teams wound up finishing second and seventh.
Â
In the overall fleet of 16 boats, the team of
Louis Margay and
Catherine Aitken were second, while
Colin MacGillivray and
Linnea Forsberg posted a seventh-place finish.
Robert Ziman and
Maggie Schuler were 12th, followed by
Aubin Hattendorf and
Julia Christie who wound up 13th.
Â
In its second race of the weekend, Navy traveled to Kings Point, N.Y. for the Admiral's Cup Regatta which was hosted by the Merchant Marine Academy. Racing proved to be filled with challenges throughout the event, as winds from many directions with varying strengths affected nearly all boats on the course.
Â
The Midshipmen proved to be inconsistent on both days of competition and finished 10th out of 17 teams.
Gavin McJones and
Izzy Fadullon finished eighth in the A Division, while
Trenton Shaw and
Ryan Wahba were 12th in the B Division.
