BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Navy women's lacrosse senior
Alexis Bell (Johns Creek, Ga.) was named a finalist for the prestigious 2022 Yeardley Reynolds Love (YRL) Unsung Hero Award, the One Love Foundation announced on Tuesday. It is the second consecutive season that Bell has been a finalist for the award.
Bell is one of six finalists among NCAA Division I, joining Caitlynn Mossman (Boston College), Carsin Gronbach (Bryant), Cara Scanio (Hofstra), Maren Geiger (Niagara), and Elizabeth Pawlak (Villanova).
Earlier this week, Bell was named a 2022 First Team All-Patriot League selection. This season, she served as one of Navy's top one-on-one defenders, helping the Navy defense hold opponents to two or fewer goals in 44 (of 72) quarters, including holding opponents scoreless for nine quarters, while holding nine opponents to single digit goals scored. Bell notched caused turnovers in 16 of Navy's 18 games with multiple CTs in six games. She picked up ground balls in 14 of 18 games with multiple GB in eight games.
In her career, Bell has played in 43 games with 37 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers to her credit. Since her arrival with the team, Navy has gone 40-17 overall, including a 19-5 mark in the Patriot League. In addition, the team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2019 when Bell was a freshman.
Off of the field, Bell is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as well as, a member of the Midshipman Black Studies Club. In addition, she holds a leadership role on Navy Athletics' Diversity Committee. Bell was service assigned naval flight officer and will report to flight school after graduation.
The Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award recognizes the accomplishments of six student-athletes (two from each division) who help their teams achieve success in ways that may not be measured in goals, saves or ground balls. This honor places value on kindness and generosity, characteristics that are often undervalued in the competitively charged environment of college lacrosse.
The award recognizes the athlete who makes a significant contribution to the team while also bringing joy to teammates. The award recipients exhibit leadership as a positive role model and are involved in community service. The recipients are awarded a sum of money from the One Love Foundation to be given to their favorite charity.
