Men’s Soccer Announces Staff Changes Ahead of 2022 Season

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy men's soccer head coach Tim O'Donohue announced Thursday a pair of changes to his coaching staff ahead of the 2022 season. Brooks Wilson has been elevated from a volunteer to a full-time assistant coach, while Annapolis native Brent Boone has joined the staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

Wilson has served as a volunteer assistant for Navy in each of the last two seasons, working primarily with the goalkeepers. Prior to joining O'Donohue's staff the Beaufort, S.C. native was the top assistant and goalkeeping coach at Dreher High School in Columbia, S.C. from 2019-20. Wilson also served as the goalkeeper coach for South Carolina United FC from 2018-20.

"Brooks has earned his promotion to a full-time assistant coach," said O'Donohue. "He came in as a volunteer two years ago and has worked tirelessly for the program and has put his head down and learned. He will do an excellent job on the recruiting trail and helping lead the program."

Over his first two seasons in Annapolis, Wilson has assisted the Midshipmen in playing to a combined 16-8-2 record that includes an appearance in the 2021 Patriot League Tournament semifinals.

"I want to thank coach O'Donohue, Chet Gladchuk and Eric Ruden for this opportunity," said Wilson. "I feel privileged to continue with this program and honored that coach O'Donohue has selected me to continue working with this amazing group of players we have at the Naval Academy. I will be giving everything I have to continue the progress we have been making."

Boone comes to Navy with a wealth of coaching experience, which includes spending the last 13 seasons as an assistant coach for the Broadneck High School varsity boys soccer team. Additionally, the Annapolis native served as the head coach of the St. Mary's High School boys soccer team from 1991-94.

"Brent brings a wealth of experience to our staff," remarked O'Donohue. "He has been a successful high school and club coach in the area for many years. He also is very good at working individually with players in supplemental technical training. He will be a great role model for our Midshipmen."

Along with his head coaching experience in the high school ranks, Boone has served as a head coach at the youth level for the Annapolis Soccer Club, Soccer Association of Columbia and Severna Park Soccer for 15 years, while also coaching the U17 Olympic Development Central East Girls Soccer Program in 1993 and then again from 2007-09.

Backed by his years of experience in coaching and training, Boone founded Pelota Training in 2009 where he serves as the co-owner and technical director. Pelota Training is an innovative soccer company geared toward improving the technical abilities of an individual, serving players of all ages and skill levels.

Boone owns several licenses and certifications from the United Soccer Coaches organization, including diplomas in club administration and advanced technical training.

"I'm very excited to work with a storied men's soccer program and a very talented coaching staff," commented Boone. "Most importantly, I'm excited to work with some of the best student-athletes our country has to offer. I look forward to helping our players continue their development as high-quality soccer players and future top-level leaders."
