ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy women's lacrosse head coach
Cindy Timchal announced that rising seniors
Athena Corroon (Greenwich, Conn.) and
Charlotte Ryan (Tully, N.Y.) will be team captains for the 2023 campaign. Corroon will serve as the defensive captain, while Ryan will captain the offense.
"I am very honored and excited to be voted as team captain for the Navy women's lacrosse team this year," Corroon said. "Charlotte and I cannot wait for the fall and spring season to come and are ready to get to work with this amazing team. Our senior class is incredible and is also ready to lead this team. I am looking forward to and am very grateful for this opportunity to lead our team, which is filled with hardworking and goal-oriented players."
Corroon has played in all 38 games of her career, making 24 starts as a defensive midfielder. For her career, the Greenwich, Conn. native has picked up 36 ground balls with 15 caused turnovers, while adding three draw controls. In addition, Corroon has netted a pair of goals with two assists for four total points. Last season, she played in all 20 contests, starting 10 of the final 11 games. Corroon finished the year with 17 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers as a mainstay in the Mids' back line.

"It is a privilege to build upon last year's momentum and keep our team moving forward, especially as we welcome next year's class of plebes. I love my teammates and can't wait to be back on the field working, improving, and winning with them. Athena and I share similar values and a deep commitment to the Navy women's lacrosse family."
Ryan has played in 24 games in her career, making 17 starts. For her career, she has scored 32 goals with 10 assists for 42 total points. In addition, she has registered 24 ground balls, 14 draw controls, while causing three turnovers. Ryan earned a starting role as a junior, playing in all 20 games with 17 starts to her credit in 2022. The Tully, N.Y. native finished 2022 with 30 goals, including five hat tricks, nine assists, 24 ground balls, 13 draws, and three caused turnovers.
