ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Senior offensive tackle
Kip Frankland has been named Captain of the Captains by the varsity team captains of Navy's 35 varsity sports programs. Frankland is the third Navy football player to serve in the role over the last four years. Ford Higgins was selected for the 2019-20 academic year, while
Mychal Cooper was honored in 2021-22.
Frankland will lead discussions once a month with all the team captains on how they can improve what they are doing with their individual teams and as a group.
Frankland, who was voted a tri-captain by his teammates on the football team along with
John Marshall and
Bijan Nichols, has started 15 games and played in 21 games in his career. He will have the honor of wearing No. 68 this year in memory of David Forney.
Frankland, who was the only Navy offensive lineman to start all 12 contests last year, garnered All-East honors a year ago and is expected to anchor a promising offensive line in 2022.
Navy will kick off the 2022 season at home on Sept. 3 against Delaware and then opens up American Athletic Conference the following week at home against Memphis.
The Mids will also host Tulsa (10/8), Houston (10/22) and Temple (10/29) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and Notre Dame (11/12) at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
The annual Army-Navy Game presented by USAA will take place on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
