ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy offshore sailing team had two crews return on Tuesday aboard their boats from New York after completing the final competition of their block, The Around Long Island Race.Â

The race, spanning 207 nautical miles, started last Thursday in the Hudson River just off the tip of Manhattan, as the Mids raced down the river into the ocean, 100 miles east to Montauk Point then back up Long Island Sound to the finish line in Hempstead Harbor.

Sailing two from the program's donated boat fleet (Farr 40s ZEPHYR and CHAOS), the Midshipmen crews dominated their class by taking first and second, with ZEPHYR also taking line honors by finishing first overall on Friday, as CHAOS was close behind.

Patrick Michalik was the skipper of ZEPHYR, with his crew consisting of senior XO Joe Garcia, senior Trey Currie, junior Zach Fernandez, sophomores Nick Gibbons, Isabelle Novolio,
Shankar Jambunathan, Elliott Brandicourt and Conrad Scheutz.
