Sprint Football Overcomes Slow Start for 27-7 Victory Against Chestnut Hill

Navy trailed 7-0 after one quarter, but scored 27 unanswered points to notch a 20-point win.

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – Navy (1-0, 1-0 CSFL South) trailed 7-0 after one quarter, but the Midshipmen scored 27 unanswered points to notch a 20-point win over Chestnut Hill (0-1, 0-1) at A.A. Garthwaite Stadium in Conshohocken, Pa. Senior team captain Alex Totta (Kansas City, Kan.) scored a pair of touchdowns in the game to lead the Mids.
 
"Hats off to Chestnut Hill," Major Alfonso Meidus, USMC stated after the game. "Tonight was a tough fought physical game and we are happy to head home with a win. I am proud of how our men responded to some beginning adversity, but we need to be a lot more disciplined in our play."
 
As a team, Navy amassed 337 total yards, including 140 passing yards and 197 yards rushing. Alex Totta (Kansas City, Kan.) registered 97 yards rushing on 26 carries with a pair of TDs. Brandon Atwood (Gentry, Ark.) finished the game with 87 yards rushing, while going 15-for-24 for 140 yards and a touchdown. Jake Smith (Union, Ky.) led the team with eight receptions (46 yards), while Andrew Margiotta (Vienna, Va.) paced the team with 55 receiving yards on a pair of catches. Chris Stumpf (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded just one catch, but made it count, pulling down a 12-yard touchdown reception.
 
Defensively, Devyn Martin (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Trent Parker (Washington, D.C.) finished with four tackles apiece, including three tackles for loss each. Martin was credited with 1.5 sacks, while Nadir Emlemdi (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded the game's only interception.
 
Mychal Golden (Jonesboro, Ark.) was a perfect 5-for-5 on the night kicking the ball. The junior made a pair of field goals – 42 yards and 32 yards – to go along with three extra points.
 
In the first quarter, Chestnut Hill was able to scratch the scoreboard. The Griffins used a 22-yard touchdown pass to take a lead with 8:28 remaining in the opening period.
 
The Midshipmen were able to put points on the scoreboard in the second quarter as Golden converted a 42-yard field goal attempt to trim the margin to 7-3 with 6:16 remaining in the half. Navy took the lead as Totta plunged three yards into the end zone to put the visitors on top 10-7.
 
Navy increased its advantage with a touchdown in the third. Atwood completed a 12-yard strike to Stumpf for the first touchdown pass of the season. Golden pushed the Mids' lead to 20-7 with his second field goal of the night, converting a 32-yard try.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Midshipmen scored an insurance touchdown as Totta once again found the end zone, this time with a four-yard carry.
 
Navy returns to action next Friday as the Midshipmen host Army in the annual Star Game, which is part of the overall Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA. Opening kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, while live stats will be available throughout the game.
