Navy Travels to Army for Saturday Game Airing on the CBS Sports Network

The first Army-Navy men's basketball game this season will be played Saturday when the Mids (9-10, 2-5) travel to West Point to face the Black Knights (11-9, 5-2) in a 1:30 p.m. game that will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.

Five Starting Notes
1 – This year marks the 100th season in which there will be an Army-Navy game since the series began during the 1919-20 season.  Additionally, the teams are meeting for the 91st season in a row.
2 – A combined five players on the teams have started an Army-Navy game in Christl Arena.  Players on the teams have totaled 72 career points in Army-Navy games played in the venue.
3 – Saturday's game is the non-Star Game in the series.  The Star Game will be played Feb. 11 in Annapolis.
4 – Ed DeChellis will become the 22nd active head coach to coach 800 games on the Division I level with Saturday's game.  It also will be his 350th game as the head coach of the Mids, which ranks second in school history.
5 – Navy ranks second in the Patriot League and is tied for seventh place in the NCAA in three-point field goal percentage.  Colgate leads the league and is in sixth place nationally in three-point field goal percentage.  The Patriot League as a whole ranks first among all conferences in three-point field goal percentage.

Last Game - Navy 63, Boston U. 45
•    It was a 12-10 Navy lead until the Mids closed the half on a 17-6 run to take a 29-18 lead at the break.  Nearly half of Navy's points (13) came after the 13 turnovers committed by the Terriers.
•    Navy made it a 32-20 lead early in the second half, then built a 39-26 lead.  Boston quickly climbed back into the game at 42-35 and had a possession to cut into the margin even more.
•    The Terriers missed a shot on that possession, and that was followed by the Mids going on a 7-0 and 13-3 run to take a 55-38 lead with 5:20 remaining.
•    The Mids held the Terriers to 24.5 points below their season average of 69.5 points per game.
•    Boston was 3-14 from the three-point line and shot just 37.8 percent from the floor on the night.
•    The Mids scored 22 points after 23 Boston turnovers, and the Terriers scored 11 points after the 12 turnovers committed by Navy.
•    Sean Yoder scored 14 points while Daniel Deaver added 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists.  Patrick Dorsey totaled 11 points, three three-point field goals and three steals.

About Army
•    Army has posted an overall record of 11-9 this season and is 5-2 in Patriot League play.
•    The Black Knights saw their two-game winning streak end Wednesday night with a 68-66 loss at home to Bucknell.  Army has posted a 6-2 record over its last eight games.

Series History
•    The series began Feb. 21, 1920, when Navy won a 24-18 game at West Point.
•    The teams have met annually since that game except for the 1928-29 through 1929-32 seasons.
•    Navy holds an 82-55 advantage in the all-times series, which includes a 36-29 lead in games played at Army and a 24-10 lead in games played in Christl Arena.
•    Navy leads Army, 40-22, in Patriot League regular season games played between the teams.  This includes Navy leads of 21-9 in league games played at Army, all of which were played in Christl Arena.
•    The teams split the two 2022 games, with Army winning an overtime game by one point in Annapolis (74-73) and Navy winning by three points in West Point (52-49).
•    Only once in the last seven seasons has one team won both regular season games in the series (Army, 2020).
•    Three of the last five games in the series have gone to overtime, as have five of the last 13 games.

Series Longevity
•    This is the 100th season in which Army and Navy are facing each other.  The only years in which the teams have not met since the first game in 1919-20 were the 1928-29 through 1929-32 seasons.
•    Army and Navy are meeting this year for the 91st season in a row. That is the longest uninterrupted series among Patriot League programs.
•    Army and Navy enter today having met on 137 previous occasions.  That ranks fourth for the most games played among Patriot League teams and first for the most games played by the Mids against an opponent.

Recent Army-Navy Games at West Point
•    With COVID canceling the 2021 Army-Navy games slated to be contested at West Point, players on both teams have played at the most two games in the series in Christl Arena in their respective careers.
•    Navy is led in scoring by Tyler Nelson, who has totaled 18 career points in his two games at West Point (16 in 2022), and Jalen Rucker leads Army with the 18 points he scored last season.
•    Nelson and Sean Yoder are the only two Mids to have started a game played at Army, while Rucker, Chris Mann and Charlie Peterson are the only members of the Black Knights to start a game on their home floor.

Miscellaneous Game Records
•    The Mids have tallied a 230-185 record against teams located in New York.
•    Navy has recorded an 80-106 mark in games played in New York.
•    Navy has posted a 14-10 record in games played on Jan. 21.  This includes a 4-4 record in Patriot League regular season games played on the date.
•    This will be the fourth Army-Navy game to be played on January 21.

Up Next
•    Navy returns to the road for a Wednesday night game at Bucknell.
•    The Bison head into a Saturday game at home against Holy Cross with an 8-12 record this season and a 1-6 record against league foes.
