ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Another home victory on Sunday extended the Navy women's tennis team's winning streak to three matches, as the Midshipmen defeated Morgan State by a 7-0 score at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
Navy improved to 3-2 on the spring with Sunday's victory, while Morgan State's record shifted to 0-2 with the loss.
The Mids got the ball rolling early in doubles play, as senior captain
Casey Accola and freshman
Sia Chaudry partnered for the first time to win a 6-1 decision on the top court against Asmara Rose and Hannah Smith. Juniors
Corinne Farid and
Samantha Johns secured the doubles point for Navy as the No. 2 pairing, with the duo notching their third career win together by beating Lauryn Hall and Averiana Mitchell, 6-0.
Doubles action wrapped up with the Bears' Anabel Aran and Ana-Lei Kalawe knocking off the Navy freshman duo of
Ellie Choate and
Hanna Elks Smith, 6-4, on the third court.
The Mids' sophomore class got to work quickly in singles competition, as
Kate Lee extended her personal singles winning streak to four-straight when she got a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Stefania Moysiadi at the No. 6 spot, while fellow sophomore
Parvathi Shanker finished up her own win on the No. 5 court against Kalawe (6-2, 6-2) and
Sylvia Eklund clinched the dual-match win for Navy when she defeated Aran, 6-3, 6-1, on the fourth court.
Accola continued the Mids' run through singles play when the captain posted a 6-4, 6-3 win against Hall at the No. 3 spot, while Chaudry, the reigning Patriot League Player of the Week, picked up where she left off with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Mitchell on the No. 2 court, and junior
Stella Ribaudo returned to the lineup with a 5-7, 6-4, 10-8 win at the top singles position after battling Rose for nearly two hours.
Navy moved to 9-0 all-time against Morgan State, while Accola, Eklund and Lee are all 2-0 in dual-match singles competition against Bears, with Lee beating Moysiadi in back-to-back seasons.
The Mids continue their six-match homestand on Feb. 4 with another doubleheader, hosting Towson and Saint Joseph's at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
