Mids to Face Raiders Thursday in Rematch of 2022 League Title Game

The Navy men's basketball team (8-6, 1-1) will play Thursday (7 p.m.) at Colgate (8-7, 2-0) for the first time since the teams played in the championship game of the 2022 Patriot League Tournament.

Five Starting Notes
1 – Navy and Colgate are meeting for the fourth time in less than one calendar year.  The Raiders and the Mids last played in the championship game of the 2022 Patriot League Tournament.
2 – Ths year, Colgate ranks first in the Patriot League in three-point field goal percentage (.415) and Navy ranks second (.404).  Also, the Raiders rank second in the league in three-point field goals made a game (9.33) and the Mids rank third (9.29).
3 – Navy's average of 9.29 triples made a game ranks second in school history.  The 2007-08 Mids averaged 9.60 three-point field goals made a game.
4 – Ed DeChellis will tie Don DeVoe Thursday night for the second-most games as the head coach of the Mids.  DeVoe coached the Mids for 345 games, a total DeChellis will match when Navy plays Colgate.
5 – Navy entered its Patriot League opener at Boston U. averaging 7.2 free throws made and 10.8 free throw attempts a game on the season.  The Mids have averaged 17.5 free throws made and 21.0 free throws attempts over the last two games.

Last Game - Holy Cross 74, Navy 63
•    The game was tied at 14-14 when Holy Cross scored the next 13 points.  The Crusaders entered the day averaging 6.4 three-point field goals made a game this season, but were 7-10 from long range in taking the 27-14 lead.
•    The margin would grow to 32-17 before the Mids closed to within 34-30 at halftime.
•    It was a 35-33 Holy Cross lead early in the second half.  The teams exchanged baskets over the next several minutes before the Crusaders took a 48-39 lead.
•    Navy pulled to within 54-49, but a 7-0 run by the Crusaders gave them a 61-49 lead.
•    Holy Cross made 13 three-point field goals and made 70 percent of its two-point field goal attempts.
•    Navy made eight triples and was held to a season-low field goal percentage (.328).
•    Daniel Deaver scored 19 points.

About Colgate
•    Colgate has posted an 8-7 overall record on the season and stands with a 2-0 record after the first weekend of league play.
•    The Raiders recorded a 101-67 win at Loyola and a 76-60 victory at Lehigh to start the league season.
•    Colgate has scored at least 80 points in nine of its 15 games this season.

Navy-Colgate Series
•    Colgate holds a 43-30 advantage in the all-time series with Navy.  The Raiders lead the Mids, 25-12, in games played in Hamilton, which includes an 25-11 edge in games played at Cotterell Court.
•    Colgate leads Navy, 35-25, in Patriot League regular season games played between the teams.  The Raiders hold a 19-11 advantage in league regular season games played in Hamilton, all of which have been played at Cotterell Court.
•    Colgate has won the last seven games in the series, which includes victories in the semifinal round of the 2019 league tournament and the final of the 2022 league tournament.
•    Colgate has won the last seven games in the series that have been played in Hamilton.
•    The teams first met during the 1950-51 season when Colgate won a 63-59 decision in a game played in Raleigh, N.C.

Miscellaneous Game Records
•    Navy has posted a 14-11 record in games played on Jan. 5.  This includes a 2-2 record in Patriot League regular season games played on the date.
•    The Mids have tallied a 230-184 record against teams located in New York State.
•    Navy has posted an 80-105 record in games played in New York State.

Up Next
•    Navy returns home to start a two-game homestand against Lehigh Valley teams Lehigh (Sunday) and Lafayette (Wednesday).
•    It will be the second of an eventual three times this season in which the Mids play at least back-to-back home games (played three in row Nov. 18-26).
•    Lehigh heads into a Thursday game at Bucknell with a 5-8 record on the season.  The Mountain Hawks opened league play with an 80-78 loss at Army and a 76-60 loss at home to Colgate.

On the Road Again
•    Thursday's game at Colgate will be Navy's seventh road game in a span of nine games.
•    Navy's six previous road games in this span were played in Tennessee, Virginia (two), West Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts.
•    Prior to playing host to Holy Cross Monday, Navy played just one home game (Dec. 18) in a span of seven games and 36 days.
