EASTON, Pa. -- Behind 21 kills from Jamie Llewelllyn and 21 digs from
Jordan Llewellyn, the Navy volleyball team posted a four-set victory over Lafayette, Friday night at the Kirby Sports Center in Easton, Pa. The Mids (14-6, 6-5) outlasted the Leopards (9-11, 5-7), 27-29, 25-21, 25-19, 25-23.
"It took us some time to adjust to the mix of swings and speeds the Lafayette hitters were using," said Navy head coach
Paco Labrador. "Jamie found an entirely new level of aggression in set two (eight kills and no attack errors on 15 attempts in the set). We leaned on her and she delivered a ton of competitive fire. Jordan continues to be one of our best threats from the service line (three aces in the match)."
Set One
Navy took leads of 20-15 and 22-19, but found itself trailing, 23-22. The Mids answered with back-to-back points to reach set point with a 24-23 lead. The teams played sideout volleyball for awhile as the Navy served for the set three more times before the Leopards reached set point for the first time at 28-27. Lafayette would convert the chance to take a 1-0 lead.
Set Two
The teams were tied at 16-16 in set two, then the Mids took a 19-16 lead. Back came the Leopards and they tied the score at 20-20. Two errors by Lafayette gave the Mids a 22-20 lead. Navy soon took a 23-21 lead, then
Lainey Feighery delivered back-to-back aces to close out the frame, 25-21.
Set Three
Navy held a 15-14 lead, then ripped off the next four points and soon built a 22-15 advantage. The Leopards were able to close to within 23-19, but the Mids tallied the ensuing two points to claim the set.
Set Four
Navy slowly turn a 15-14 lead into a 20-15 advantage. But just as in set one, Lafayette rallied. The Mids led 21-16, 22-19 and 23-21 only to see the Leopards tie the score at 23-23. A
Jamie Llewellyn kill took Navy to match point, then a bad set by Lafayette closed out the nearly two-hour match.
