Untimely Errors Prove Costly in Four-Set Volleyball Loss

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Navy volleyball team dropped a four-set match at Bucknell, Saturday afternoon at Davis Gym in Lewisburg, Pa.  The Bison (13-9, 9-4) won their sixth match in a row with their 25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 25-19 win over the Mids (14-7, 6-6), who closed out the road portion of their regular season today.

"We can still do more to take care of the ball when we have possession," said Navy head coach Paco Labrador.  "We will continue to build the repeatability of our skills.  We are a dangerous team when we do those little things.

"Credit Bucknell's Catherine Jamison for showcasing an extraordinary level of play in the right side (20 kills).  The top players in the Patriot League are playing at the highest level I have seen in my six seasons."

Set One
The score was tied at 7-7 when Bucknell jumped out to leads of 10-7 and 15-8 to build some separation.  Navy could only draw to within as few as four points the rest of the way.

Set Two
The teams were knotted at 16-16 when a 5-0 spurt gave the Mids a 21-16 cushion.  That was enough of a lead for the Mids to tie the match and one set each.

Set Three
Bucknell led at the start as it took leads of 5-1, 12-8 and 19-14.  Navy rallied and tied the score at 19-19.  The Bison regrouped by scoring the next three points to take a 22-19 lead.  Back-to-back kills from the Mids pulled them to within one at 22-21.  A Bucknell kill followed by a block took it to set point with a 24-21 lead.  Navy erased one set point with a kill, but the Bison converted on its second chance to win the frame.

Set Four
The teams were within striking distance of the other for the majority of the set.  It was a 19-18 Bucknell lead when the Bison scored each of the next two of six of the next seven points to close out the set and the match.

Statistical Notes
Navy recorded more kills than Bucknell, 54-47, but also more attack errors, 24-18, service errors, 14-7, and blocking errors, 6-2.  The Bison additionally led in aces, 6-2, and blocks, 11-7.

Jamie Llewellyn notched her second double-double in less than 24 hours as she finished with 16 kills and 16 digs to lead Navy in both categories.

Jordan Llewellyn just missed a double-double with 12 kills and nine digs, as did setters Averi Miller, 29 assists and nine digs, and Arleigh Hanson, 15 assists and nine digs.

"Arleigh continues to impress me," said Labrador.  "Each time we ask her to expand her role, she meets and exceeds expectations.  She played great defense and set at one of the highest efficiencies (44% of her sets were assists) we have seen all season."
