ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy offshore sailing team wrapped up a pair of regattas this weekend, as six crews finished up between the Storm Trysail Club Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta in Larchmont, N.Y., and the Annapolis Yacht Club's Fall Series in Annapolis, Md.
The highlight of the weekend was in New York, where senior skipper
Renee Bonner led her crew to first in the PHRF Medium class and first overall out of 36 schools entered in the Storm Trysail Club's Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta. Bonner and crew posted a perfect score, winning all four of their races in challenging conditions on the Long Island Sound to earn themselves the coveted Paul Hoffman Trophy for the most outstanding performance by a team in the event. Bonner's crew included seniors
Jessie Sedlock, Rick Irving,
Sydney Richardson,
Cam Coffelt and
Ian Mason and juniors
Inaki Romero-Garza and
Alec Malone.
Senior skipper
Javier Jimenez Kane was also in Larchmont, as he led his crew to second place in the PHRF Large class, one point out of first place.
In the Annapolis Yacht Club's Fall Series, the Mids' best performance was the crew of junior Gus Reed, as the CONSTELLATION took third out of 14 boats in the J/105 class. Reed's crew included junior
Ulysses Buzan and sophomores
Sawyer Barnard, Maddie Nienow, Drew Schipper and
Olivia Schuchard. Also in the J/105 class was junior
Brandon Prouse, who skippered AVENGER to sixth place.
In the ORC 1 class, senior
Nate Bramwell led his crew aboard the Navy 44 INTEGRITY to sixth place of 11 boats while 1/C Phil Pacheco skippered DEFIANCE to eighth in the same division.
Next up for Navy is the McMillan Cup and Fall Keelboat Invitational Regatta this coming weekend, with both events taking place in Annapolis.
