Lightweight Crew Readies for Challenging Princeton Chase Event

Mids entered in three contests starting at 9:30 AM

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The 2023 fall racing slate for the Navy lightweight team heads into the backstretch this Sunday morning with action at the Princeton Chase. The competition will be the second-to-last for the program as they'll head down to the Charlottesville next Saturday for a series of scrimmages as part of the UVA Fall Classic. Sunday's day-long contest will begin at 9:30 a.m. and feature the Mids competing in three different events along a three-mile stretch of water at Lake Carnegie in Princeton.

Navy will have it's top two varsity boats racing twice in eight-man events on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in a lightweight-only contest and again at 12 p.m. in an open-weight 'round two' event. The initial field in the Lightweight Eights consists of 16 total crews from Cornell, Georgetown, Navy, Penn and Princeton, while the second field is scheduled to be 15 deep. The final race of the day will see Navy break into smaller boats as part of the Men's Fours at 12:35 p.m. The Mids will have four entrants in the expected field of 28.

Last year at the 2022 Princeton Chase, the Mids' first varsity lightweight team challenged the host Princeton Tigers for the event title before coming in second place. Princeton finished the race at 13:31.673 ahead of Navy's 13:39.270. The Mids' second varsity gave the program two boats in the top-10 as it posted a time of 14:11.414 to rank tenth overall.
