MANHEIM, Pa. - The Navy wrestling team is ranked 17th in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division I Top 25 poll, which was announced Tuesday afternoon. The Mids have earned a ranking for five-straight weeks, four of which have been at No. 17.
Â
Navy defeated Ohio last Sunday, 27-12, to improve to 5-0 for the first time since the 2017-18 season. The Mids have won their last seven duals dating back to last season and are on their longest winning streak since they won seven-consecutive duals between the 2015-16 and 2016-17 campaigns.
Â
Along with its win over Ohio, Navy has beaten then No. 23 Illinois (23-18), then No. 16 Pitt (21-12), Morgan State (39-0) and VMI (40-6). The Mids have won 36 of the 50 bouts in duals this season and have earned bonus points in 17 of their wins (47.2).
Â
Andrew Cerniglia (165) was bumped up to No. 20 in his weight class in the latest InterMat rankings after upsetting No. 11 Garrett Thompson by a 7-5 decision last Sunday. Also garnering a ranking was No. 22
Brendan Ferretti (133), No. 19
Josh Koderhandt (141), No. 19
Danny Wask (174), No. 27
David Key (184) and No. 14
Grady Griess (285).
Â
Navy will look to win its eighth-straight dual when it faces American on Thursday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. in Washington D.C. A victory would give the Mids their longest winning streak since they won 10-consecutive duals between the 2004-05 and 2005-06 campaigns.

Ranking Methodology
The NWCA Division I Men's Wrestling Coaches Poll is voted on by two coaches from each Division I wrestling conference. Each first-place vote is worth 25 points, 24 points for a second-place vote, 23 for a third-place vote and so on through to one point for a 25th-place vote. The poll is based on dual meet results. Teams who are not competing this season are not included in the voting process.
