Third-Place Mids to Play at Second-Place Mountain Hawks Wednesday Night

The Navy men's basketball team returns to Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley for the second time in two weeks Wednesday night when the Mids (15-11, 8-6) play a 7 p.m. game at Lehigh (14-11, 9-5).

Five Starting Notes
1 – The last three games in the Navy-Lehigh series have been decided by a total of 14 points (Lehigh is 3-0).  Additionally, the last three games in the series to be played at Lehigh have been decided by 14 points (Navy is 2-1).
2 – Lehigh leads the Patriot League this season and ranks 57th nationally with an average of 69.8 possessions per game.  Navy ranks eighth in the league and 301st in the NCAA with an average of 64.9 possessions a game (kenpom.com).
3 – In league games, Lehigh ranks first among teams with averages of 13.9 free trows made a game and 18.1 free throws attempted a game.  Navy is tied for fourth with 10.6 free throws made a game and seventh with an average of 14.9 free throws attempted per game.
4 – Mids have won back-to-back Patriot League Player-of-the Week awards (Daniel Deaver, Feb. 6; Tyler Nelson, Feb. 13) for the first time since 2014-15 and the 10th time in school history.
5 – Current Mids who were on the team for at least one season over the previous three years entered the 2022-23 season having scored 10 or more points in a combined 49 career games.  Those same players have scored in double figures in 71 games this season.

Last Game - Navy 70, Army 53
•    Navy used a 13-2 run to take a 29-21 lead late in the first half.  The Mids went into the halftime break with a 29-24 lead.
•    Navy held Army without a made field goal for over six minutes as the Mids outscored the Black Knights, 8-0, 12-2 and 17-4 to take a 54-36 lead with 10 minutes left.
•    The margin grew to 66-44 with a little more than five minutes still to play.
•    Navy held Army to 24 percent shooting in the second half and a 31 percent effort for the game.  The Mids made 52 percent of their shots after halftime and 43 percent of their attempts on the afternoon.
•    Navy held a 16-9 edge in points after turnovers and a 10-1 advantage in second-chance points.
•    Tyler Nelson posted 23 points (two shy of tying his career high), nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
•    Navy has now won the Star Game in three-straight years, in five of the last six seasons and in eight of the last 10 years.  The Mids also swept the regular season series from for the first time since 2015.  

About Lehigh
•    Lehigh has posted an overall record of 14-11.  That includes an 8-4 record in home games.
•    The Mountain Hawks have compiled a 9-5 record in league games, which features a 4-3 record at home.
•    Lehigh dropped a 91-82 decision at home to Loyola Saturday.  The Mountain Hawks have lost back-to-back games as well as three of their last four contests.

Navy-Lehigh Series
•    Navy holds a 53-35 advantage in the all-time series with Lehigh.  The Mids lead the Mountain Hawks, 22-14, in games played in Bethlehem.  That includes a 21-14 advantage in games played in Stabler Arena.
•    Navy leads Lehigh, 34-29, in Patriot League regular season games played between the teams.  The Mids hold a 19-12 advantage in league regular season games played in Bethlehem, all of which have been played at Stabler Arena.
•    Lehigh has won the last three games in the series.  Those games have been decided by a total of 14 points (8, 1, 5, respectively).
•    The last three games that have been played in Bethlehem also have been decided by a total of 14 points (Navy won by five and eight points, respectively, and Lehigh won by one point).
•    The teams first met Jan. 21, 1911, when Navy won a 31-24 decision in Annapolis.

Miscellaneous Game Records
•    The Mids have tallied a 386-262 record against teams located in Pennsylvania.
•    Navy has totaled a 80-138 record in games played in Pennsylvania.
•    Navy has posted a 20-14 record in games played on Feb. 15.  This includes a 3-6 record in Patriot League regular season games played on the date.
•    This will be the third time Navy and Lehigh are playing on Feb. 15.

•    Navy will be back in Alumni Hall Saturday for a 4 p.m. game against Loyola. 
•    The Greyhounds head into a Wednesday home game against Lafayette with a 9-18 overall record and a 4-10 mark in Patriot League play.

Nelson Earns PL Honor
•    Tyler Nelson followed Daniel Deaver's player-of-the-week accolade by earning the same honor one week later (Feb. 13).
•    Nelson garnered the laurel after he averaged 18.5 points and 6.5 rebounds a game in Navy's wins over Bucknell and Army.  He made a trio of three-point field goals in each game a spar of a 14-28 overall shooting percentage from the floor.  
•    Nelson tallied 23 points, nine rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks against the Black Knights.
•    It was the first time since the 2014-15 season and the 10th time in Navy history in which Mids won at least two-straight league player-of-the-week honors.

Life on the Road 
•    The Mids have compiled a 12-4 record in league road games since the start of the 2021-22 season and a 17-4 league road record since the start of the 2020-21 COVID season.  
•    Road teams are winning within the league at their best percentage (35-36, .493) since the league became 10 teams with the 2013-14 season.  

Navy Running When it Can
•    The Mids have been playing at a slower pace, but do take advantage of opportunities to run when presented.
•    Navy is averaging more fast break points per game than its foes this season (203-163 for the season and 101-76 in Patriot League games).
•    Navy has totaled more fast break points than its opponents in each of the last seven games (65-23).
