ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The first of a busy three days saw the Navy men's tennis team split a pair of matches on Friday.  The Mids (4-4) registered a 7-0 victory over Hofstra (1-2) in Annapolis and lost a 7-0 decision at Penn (2-2).

Navy 7, Hofstra 0
The Mids began the match against the Pride by winning each of the three doubles matches.  Herrick Legaspi (Fr., Sacramento, Calif.) and Nicholas Nguyen (Jr., McLean, Va.) posted a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles over Matthew Garcia and Josh Reynolds in the first match to finish.  A 6-3 win by J.J. Etterbeek (Fr., Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and Luke Garner (So., Arnold, Md.) over Jonathan Mahrt Guyou and Vincent Turina at the No. 3 flight gave the Mids the early 1-0 lead.

Legaspi made the score 2-0 with his 6-3, 6-1 victory over Garcia at No. 3 singles.  Christian Pumpelly (Sr., Atlanta, Ga.) followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles against Guyou to make the score 3-0.  Nguyen earned the match-clinching fourth team point when he defeated Turina, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 6 singles.

Penn 7, Navy 0
Navy had its chances to win the doubles point as both of its Nos. 1 and 3 teams lost by the score of 6-3.  Aniketh Ayinala (Fr., Charlotte, N.C.) and Sasha Panyan (Jr., Lutherville, Md.) played at the former flight while Andres Ballesteros (Sr., West Hartford, Conn.) and Eric Liu (Jr., Canton, Mich.) played at the latter.

Panyan also lost a close No. 1 singles match as he lost in a third-set tiebreaker.  Panyan won the opening set against Edoardo Graziani, 6-1, then lost the second set, 6-4.  Grazianai would edge Panyan, 7-6 (7-5) in the third set.
