First of Back-to-Back Home Games for Men’s Basketball is Wednesday vs. Bucknell

The Navy men's basketball team will play the first of two home games this week on Wednesday night (7 p.m.) when the Mids (13-11, 6-6) play host to Bucknell (10-15, 3-9).

Five Starting Notes
1 – Daniel Deaver earned the first Patriot League Player-of-the-Week award of his career on Monday.  The senior averaged 25.5 points and 12.5 rebounds a game last week.  His week was capped by a 35-point, 16-rebound effort at Holy Cross.  It was the ninth 35 / 15 game by a Mid in school history and the first since David Robinson in 1987.
2 – Navy has posted a 5-2 record in league road games this season and a 17-4 record in league road games since the start of the 2020-21 season.
3 – Navy has scored more fast break points than its opponents in each of the last five games.  The Mids have outscored their foes 46-18 in fast break points during this span.
4 – With his 13 points Saturday at Holy Cross, Tyler Nelson became the 12th Mid to set a new personal single-season scoring high this year.
5 – Seniors at the USNA who received surface warfare officer for their service assignment selected their initial ships on Feb. 2.  Christian Jones selected the USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62), a destroyer based in San Diego, Calif., and Tyler Nelson selected the USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), a landing helicopter dock ship based in Norfolk, Va.

Attending the Game
•     Fans without a Department of Defense ID card must park outside of the USNA and either walk through the gate one visitors center or ride the shuttle bus.  Shuttle bus service begins one hour prior to the start of the game.  It will depart from and return to the blue (west) parking lot at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (550 Taylor Ave., Annapolis, MD, 21401).

Last Game - Navy 86, Holy Cross 68
•    Navy took an early 8-0 lead, but from there it was a two-possession game for the next 30 minutes.
•    The score was tied in the second half at 40, 47, 49, 51 and 53.
•    A run of scoring on 14-straight possessions (two to get to a 53-51 lead and 12 after) boosted Navy to a 75-61 advantage with 3:21 remaining.
•    Daniel Deaver totaled 21 second-half points (8-11 from the field, 5-5 from the foul line) on his way to a 35-point, 16-rebound game.  Both of those totals were career highs in what was the first double-double of his career.  He was 14-22 from the field in all and 7-7 from the foul line to produce Navy's first 35 / 15 game since David Robinson in 1987.
•    Three other Mids scored 13 points, including Sean Yoder who added nine assists and seven rebounds.

About Bucknell 
•    Bucknell travels to Annapolis with an overall record of 10-15 and a Patriot League mark of 3-9.
•    The Bison have posted road records this year of 3-9 overall and 2-4 in league play.
•    Bucknell has won its last two games, winning 78-71 at American and 73-67 at home against Army.
•    The Bison have scored at least 70 points in three of their last five games after not having done so in the first seven games of the league season.

Series History
•    The series began Jan. 31, 1920, when Navy won a 15-13 game in Annapolis.
•    Bucknell holds a 44-43 advantage in the all-time series.  Navy leads the series, 34-13, in games played in Annapolis, including a 22-13 edge in games played in Alumni Hall.
•    Bucknell leads Navy, 35-28, in Patriot League regular season games played between the teams.  However, the Mids have posted a 19-12 record against the Bison in league games played in Annapolis, all of which were played in Alumni Hall.
•    Navy has won the last eight games in the series, which includes four wins in a row in Annapolis.

Miscellaneous Game Records
•    The Mids have tallied a 385-262 record against teams located in Pennsylvania.
•    Navy has posted a 20-11 record in games played on Feb. 8.  This includes a 6-4 record in Patriot League regular season games played on the date.

Up Next
•    Navy plays host to Army Saturday in the annual Star Game between the two programs.
•    The Black Knights head into a Wednesday home game against Loyola with a 13-12 overall record and a 7-5 mark in Patriot League play.

Navy Relying on Long-Range Shot
•    Through games of Feb. 6, Navy ranks 16th nationally in three-point field goal percentage (.385) and 78th in three-point field goals made per game (8.33).
•    The Patriot League ranks third in the NCAA for three-point field goal percentage this season.
