MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Team captain
Keegan Shreves (Sr / Potomac, Md.) shot a team-low 215 (77-67-71) to lead the Navy men's golf team to an 11th-place finish at the 18-team Bash at the Beach held Monday and Tuesday at the Surf Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Mids finished the 54-hole tournament with a 32-over par 884 (302-282-300).
Navy opened the tournament in 16th after turning in an 18-over par 302, but kicked off the rust and settled in during the second round where they shot the fourth-lowest round with a 2-under par 282 to push up to 11th. The Mids maintained their position in Tuesday's final round with a 16-over par 300.
Shreves earned a top-20 finish behind a strong second-round performance that saw him card a 4-under par 67. He followed up by shooting par in the final round to move from 26th into 19th in the final standings.
Just a stroke behind Shreves was
Jack Tarzy (Fr / Medford, N.J.), who tied for 25th with a 3-over par 216. Tarzy, who made his first-collegiate tournament appearance, also shot a 67 in the second round and had climbed to 16th in the standings. The newcomer, however, fell out of the top 20 after closing out the two-day tourney with a 3-over par 74.
Chip Deegan (Fr / Newport Beach, Calif.) opened the tournament with the a team-low 1-over par 72, but fell back over the course of the next two rounds. The rookie tallied marks of 74 and 78 to finish 58th with an 11-over par 224.
Benjamin Valdez (So / Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) and
Noah Nuez (So / Laveen, Ariz.) rounded out play for the Mids with Valdez placing 85th with an 18-over par 231 (78-76-77), while Nuez finished 101st with a 24-over par 237 (84-74-79).
Tournament Notes
• Oral Roberts (281-281-281=843, -9), the top-ranked team within the field, won the tournament title by 6 strokes over Connecticut (279-288-282=849, -3). Oral Roberts and Connecticut were the only teams to finish the tournament under par.
• Oral Roberts had 4 players finish among the top 20, including Rocco Repetto-Taylor (67-71-70=208, -5) who tied for fourth and was one of 12 players to cover the tournament under par.
• Utah Valley senior Caden Weber took individual medalist honors with his 8-under par 205 (66-70-69). He earned a 1-stroke win over LIU's Marcelo Mexsen (70-67-69=206) and Connecticut's Jared Nelson (68-71-67=206)
