ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Christian Pumpelly (Sr., Atlanta, Ga.) helped clinch the doubles point and won a straight-set singles match during a 5-2 victory by the Navy men's tennis team over Morgan State (1-5), Sunday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis.  The match was the second of two on the day for the Mids (10-12), who started the day with a 4-3 loss to Temple (9-2).

Temple 4, Navy 3
The Mids took the 1-0 lead thanks to 6-2 wins at both Nos. 1 and 2 doubles.  Luke Garner (So., Arnold, Md.) and Sasha Panyan (Jr., Lutherville, Md.) earned the victory at the No. 1 flight and Nicholas Nguyen (Jr., McLean, Va.) and Gavin Segraves (Sr., Charlottesville, Va.) posted the win at No. 2 doubles.

The Owls won singles matches at the Nos. 2 and 5 flights to take a 2-1 advantage.  Panyan evened the match at 2-2 when he notched a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles.  A three-set victory by Temple at No. 4 singles was followed by Nathan Nguyen (Fr., McLean, Va.) winning, 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 6-0, at No. 6 singles to tie the match at 3-3.  Temple's Gregoire Barety would outlast Garner, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, in a two-hour match at the No. 3 flight to tally the deciding point.

The result gave the Owls a nine-match winning streak this season and also marked the fourth time in the last five meetings (six years) in which the final score of the match between Navy and Temple was 4-3.

Garner and Panyan continued their winning ways with another 6-2 win at the No. 1 doubles flight.  Nathan Nguyen and Pumpelly combined for a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles to secure the 1-0 lead.  Aniketh Ayinala (Fr., Charlotte, N.C.) and J.J. Etterbeek (Fr., Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) made it a sweep of the doubles matches with their 7-5 victory at the No. 3 flight.
